I saw this on the news last night however the way they reported it was that a gang of four from Wigan had been convicted of "trafficking young girls aged between the ages of 14-20 for the purposes of losing their virginity to arab businessmen at a London hotel. These girls being trafficked from places like Russia etc."

They even had a lady from the Poppy project on there too saying how bad trafficking was and described what people on here think of as trafficking which does involve girls being made to do this under duress against their will. For this to involve girls as young as 14 made my blood boil.

So, imagine my shock at the ridiculously short sentences they got for these heinous crimes...............between 2 years and 2 years 9 months!!!!:eek: I said angrily to my wife that for that crime they should have been gaoled for at least 15-20 years.

The problem is, this is what any normal person thinks.

Today's amended report shows that what the gang did was wrong but was more a bait and switch operation, hence the low sentences.

I am not saying they should not get more time for the mere offer of a 14 year old for sex, but as long as the laws are framed in such a way as they are, we will all be wondering why these "traffickers" are getting off so lightly!!

Just interested to see the names of thoses involved, has anyone else noticed it never seems to be a 'John Smith;, 'Peter Walker' type of name, or are the police just picking on these people because of their ethnic backgrounds?

Just to pick up Ghengis's point about the gangs light sentences......

Remember John Darwin (The man who faked his death in a canoe)

He got 6 years and 3 months whilst his wife got 6 years and 6 months.

Both had their respective appeals denied

Doesnt seem fair does it?

It makes my blood boil too, I'm sorry but kidnapping, slavery and child abuse (sexual or otherwise) should be a BIG sentence. By giving these people two years in prison which I'm sure they will be out in a year, what kind of deterrent does that give? You would probably get more if you didn't pay your friggin council tax!

paedos, rapists and these type of scumbags should get castrated and long prison terms...although paedos generally get destroyed in prison by fellow inmates.

but you gotta love this government, they wont do a damn thing unless its one of their own family that suffers these crimes.

and dont get me started on these hypocritical arab businessmen

He had to hide inside his house for some time so perhaps that took that as time already served?

It's a disgrace. I thought the government were supposed to be against all forms of trafficking, coercing etc in the Sex Industry????? So they arrest the innocent, causing them untold troubles and then hardly do anything to those who have been proven to be perpetrators of exploitation.

A few years ago a friend of mine worked for a respected private hospital in central London.

The department which had the highest turn over was the U&D dept...

Why?

All those non drinking, non smoking non whoring Arabs that had spent several months partying and whoring having a quick STD check before flying back home to their families!!

No doubt we would all agree wholeheartedly with that, if it were the case. But Charlotte and some other posters above seem to have fallen for the same line that Genghis did initially, before he discovered the facts behind the report. I think some have not really grasped what Ghenghis was pointing out in his final paragraph.

In this case there was no evidence of kidnapping, or slavery, and no child was abused. The primary offence was the "trafficking" of apparently willing participants from the North of England to London. That's from the North of England, not the steppes of Russia.

As the prosecution said: "This was a case where there clearly was corruption, but no coercion or threats. There may have been pressure as well. But it was pressure in the sense of: 'You have come down, this is what you get if you go further than a simple dance'."

This slightly earlier and perhaps more objective BBC report makes things a little clearer:

In an undercover operation Metropolitan Police officers posed as potential customers after the gang left a letter at a hotel offering their services.

Left as in accidentally or as in left as a buisness card.

The up side was they were amateurs, and got caught before they got organized and "greedier"

Yes your right Marco I did fire off a little there, I've read the article and this bit makes my stomach turn.....

"One officer said Jamali asked for £50,000 for each girl and said they could be "broken in" by the client, which they said clearly suggested they were virgins.

He said: "This was a case where there clearly was corruption, but no coercion or threats. There may have been pressure as well.

"But it was pressure in the sense of: 'You have come down, this is what you get if you go further than a simple dance'."

The fact that these people are happy to pimp/traffic virgins (fictional or otherwise) makes me feel sick. We may never know just how much these people pressured the girls, but they sound like a sick bunch to me and I'm glad they are off the streets. I still don't think the sentence is enough though.

I think you will find on further examination that the letter was left FOR an undercover police officer, not just left around in case some oversexed arab paedo just happened along to read it.

It is sideshows like this that help draw people's attention from the genuinely horrendous crimes of paedophilia and genuine trafficking that do need to be stamped out and the offenders locked up for extremely long periods

FWIW, according to Sky News:

"The gang members left wrote a letter to Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, the owner of the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel in Knightsbridge, central London, offering their services last August.

The note was passed on by staff to police, who launched a sting operation."

I heard this story on 5Live, and not meaning to trivialise what is a serious issue, but elements of its reporting seemed comletely farcical, and pure propaganda. According to the radio report, the traffickers were planning to sell their virginity for £150,000. Did they have a direct line to George Soros and Bill Gates? Farcical - the mainstream media will seemingly report anything without questioning it.

Their letter was addressed to the owner of the hotel, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. I believe that he is the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and has a personal wealth of about $20 bn. So he is very wealthy but why they should think that he would want to get involved with them or their sordid offer is beyond me.

Gholampour had pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornography

Was this the same case as there is no mention on sentencing.

Extreme pornography is new to me.

Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008

The law was enacted from 26 January 2009

'This government' has been in power for less than three months. Some other folks were in power for 13 years before that.:D

Bring back Harriett Harlot & Co?

As Ruler of Dubai and PM of the UAE, I suspect he's got a lot more than $20 bn squireled away, even allowing for whatever he may have lost on Dubai World.:D

Here's an interesting article Google turned up:

Unfortunately that bunch of half-witted scammers handed another propaganda opportunity to the Poppycock brigade.

Guess who grabbed it gratefully for use in her very last batch of PMQs? She used up all six allotted questions on just one topic: sex trafficking.

Dear Harriet, not quite gone yet…

What we need is an enlightened dictatorship, instead? I'll wait a little longer to see how the ConDem coalition deals with the horrible mess that they just inherited. Perhaps we can put off the putsch for another year.:D

Your surname isn't Crow, is it?

I noted that. And new PM congratulated her on being nicer than her two predecessors. I didn't get to actually see this, though, and I hope he rolled his eyes when he said it.:D:rolleyes::D
