Zero Posters and PM's

13 posts in this topic

Out of intrest when you get someone with zero posts or low post count (the posts all requesting info) how do you deal with them.

Maybe it's wrong but when a zero poster pm's I just delete nowadays or if all there posts are request request request and no posts from them offering info again I delete.

Would be intrested in knowing how others deal with them.

I'm all for providing information but when they can't be bothered to share any info it makes you think they should have restricted access eg no pms to a post count of 10.

Unless it has changed, Probationary members which would include those on zero posts can only send PMs at a reduced rate. It would probably be a bit draconian to prevent them from sending PMs at all.

I do appreciate your point about such posters just asking for info and not seeming to give anything back; too much of that and it starts to feel like someone is abusing your hospitality imo :P

At discretion of course, and possibly at an extra charge.

I must admit, being the suspicious type, that before I respond to any pms, I always check all the available info on that person to give me some idea about them.

There are, after all, a lot of time wasters out there! :P

i know due to personal reasons i can't log on always to share the details, also not all of teh zero posters you say are expericed punter's in the specialised section and hence look for guidence from you guys that have the what i should say expertise in this field

i know if it weren't for some of you guys i would of never had the courage to explore in the specialist field on massage and am appreciative of this to all.

but i tend not to post because, unless i have the knowledge or experience, putting my opinion would not be worth it or informative which is why most of us are on here

right?

I deal with them pretty much the same way as you, i have noticed lots of "new" members just want want want.

But everyone has to start somewhere....?

Totally agree but why do it in private ask away in the general forum and if they dont know how to find information that has allready been shared they will be gladly given help.

My main gripe was people just pming for info with out even asking basic questions on the main forum

Some people are just comfortable in PM. I would feel quite flattered they have contacted you as they obviously feel you have more knowledge and experience on the matters they have chosen to ask you about. Lets not forget the purpose is to share info to better the experience for all. There is nothing to say they do not contact offering info by PM also.

Maybe you should put something in your signature like DO NOT PM ME if you got no swapsies :D

I quite resent you insinuating it's about looking for swapsies.

Its just someone has been a member for a couple of months and hasnt posted once and pm's asking for info I think its wrong.

As you say its about sharing so if someone doesnt make the effort to share with others their experiences - Why share with them, if someone makes a little effort I am happy to tell them what I can and dont asking for other non posted info back (But allways welcomed) as a condition of giving the info. All i ask for is how their experience went is that a lot to ask for

I'm a newbie, and sent a PM to someone (and had a friendly reply), but, yes, there is a restriction in how often I can PM. Makes sense, after all, this is a community.
