Foolish Me - Conned In Reading

34 posts in this topic

Amelia from Reading pulled an excellent con on me tonight. We arranged a meeting via phone. We were to meet in Reading in front of the Isis Hotel. She asked me to bring cash up front. I thought this was odd, since paying up front is always standard. However, I assumed she'd experienced some timewasters in the past so I thought nothing else if it.

When the time arrived, she met me in front of the hotel and asked me to walk with her for a moment. She explained that she had neglected to get cash for the hotel and asked me to pay some she could book the hotel. She explained she'd call me as soon as she got to the room and got ready.

Starstruck by this gorgeous young redhead, I stupidly complied. In about 90 seconds I realised I had been had. Really stupid me!

So down £180 and having gone home all hot and bothered, I'll warn all punters to beware Amelia in Reading. Of course, I found her in that other site.

And Amelia if you are reading this - my God arrival you stunning. And congratulations on the well played con. You've taught me quite a lesson tonight!

And it only cost me £180 and some pride... ;)

If any WG or the client for that matter, asking you to met in a front of the hotel and get paid (whatever its for the hotel or booking fee, or both) its a sure con.

Sorry, you've learned your lesson in that way.

I’m impressed by your calm, collected acceptance of your momentary madness – I think I’d still be fuming! And I’m even more impressed by your willingness to share it with us, but perhaps, to avoid any confusion, you ought to tell us which Amelia duped you?

I understand where he is coming from.

Was she smart or was he not smart, either way its a wake up to rip off merchants can come in many guises. He can beat himself up or take it on the chin and learn to be more careful and less trusting.

I had money taken once, from my bag. It was a lot of money and it left me with nothing which made it a very lot of money. I dont know who took it as it could of happened in several places including being with clients. I went through all the emotions and non of them helped the situation. Some one said you can waste time and energy being angry but you still wont have your money, or you can take it as a cheap lesson and never let it happen again.

Do you mean the Ibis Hotel - I can't find an Isis Hotel in Reading? Bearing in mind the cost of the Ibis £180 would have brought your escort three nights!

You have this person's phone number and a description what you should be doing is reporting this to the police as a theft. What would you have done if you'd arranged to meet a man outside the hotel to buy something from him and he'd knocked you to the ground and stole £180 - you'd have gone to the police wouldn't you? There may be dozens of victims of this scam already.

In theory that is what he should do (Fraud Act 2006, not theft), but in reality:

1. The police won't do anything meaningful. They're not going to set up a sting operation to arrest her.

2. Details of the crime will go on the PNC cross-referred to his name and will always be there. So if in the future he has any other dealings with the police the fact that he was ripped off to the tune of £180 by a prostitute will come up on the police computer as soon as they put in his name and d.o.b.

3. Even if the police did pay her a visit, there's always the danger that she comes up with a false allegation against him. It does happen. What if she says that she did a runner because he threatened her or tried to attack her?

I'd forget about the whole thing and try and laugh it off, which it looks like he's doing. Warning others of her ** name and ID No. is the best that he can do. £180 isn't the end of the world. Best forget it. She'll get her comeuppance one day.

From the post I asumed she asked money for the hotel as well as appointment fee together. Difficult to say how she got away with it. For example: where client was when she suppose to pay for the hotel at the reception? (plus many others). Never mind, its all minor details, not worth mentioning from the OP, as I know how this scenarios well rehearsed and convincing enough even for well trained Non-Mark con spotter. (especially with hard on after seeing the nubile ginger haired nymph).

Can't see that police will be helpful, when there is no any prove for obtaining money by deception, even if they caught her at time.

If she is still advertising, Why don't you call her using another number,

and make another booking.

Then if she has the front to try it again, you can challenge her.

I know some might not want the confrontation, bit £180's no small amount to just write off.

I never understand these rip offs, as they can only do it a cetain number of times,

where if she just played the game, she would earn a lot more, if as the O.P. says she was stunning.

I know some clients expect the earth but I've never been asked to pay for the hotel on an outcall?

Your suspicions were not aroused when she told you she hadn't yet arranged the hotel?

Send me $99.99 I'll tell you how to avoid scams.

I think she was advertising incalls from a hotel that she had not yet paid for or booked even.

I hope she does.

Not all punters take this like the OP and I hope one day she messes with the wrong type and retribution is served. It would certainly be justified.

The police are a waste of time in this sort of matter.

Everytime I book a new girl, I'm fully prepared that I might get conned, one way or another. Play with fire and you get your fingers burnt, at some point. I would say, the worst thing you can try and do is exact revenge, especially by using any force...instead of just losing a few quid, you may find yourself in the nick on an assault charge.

Jeez. I emailed her in June and heard nothing. Then on Monday I get a call from here asking if I wanted to give it a ago tomorrow (Tuesday). I had just had a punt so declined but asked her to give me more notice next time. Her ratings seemed good and being a Redhead was key for me. Shame. She has more than one profile I think.

Or amelia-88? She's been touring all over the south. Thought it was a fake to be honest.

X_Amelia_X is the name though profile has gone 'inactive'. Her number is '934242'. The details all match The OP's description (works hotels) as does the rate.

I just think it sad one human will stoop so low to con another of money in this way.

I know the reality is it happens in all walks of life, but how low can people stoop.

All the best to the OP, sorry you were conned.

Like the police are going to take it seriously. Get off your high horse and step back down into the real world.

I didn't say I would do anything, just I wouldn't be sorry if something unpleasant came as a result of it. I'm entitled to that view point whether you like it or not.

Reminds me of a story recently where thieves stole motorcycles and the police didn't pursue them because the thieves didn't have crash helmets. The rationale was that the thieves may get injured if they fall off in a police chase. Few days later one of the thieves was killed in a motorcycle accident, not wearing a helmet, and I think stealing another bike.

I put myself in the position of the person who had his bike stolen, I didn't feel sorry for the thief, just felt it was his come uppance.

And before you jump the gun, I'm not saying someone should kill her. Just I wouldn't be sorry if someone took matters into their own hands and got their money back and taught her a lesson so she would think twice about doing it again.

I think it depends on the extent of the con. Going for an incall and not getting the desired level of service is different to someone taking all your money for nothing.
