Spam Mail

4 posts in this topic

just had a bit of a ta do with a client. Long and the short I accused him of being a time waster as he kept texting me please reply to my email.

I now find his mails in my spam folders. Out of curiosity I have now gone through my spam only to find quite a few inquires to which I have been totally unaware of, so obviously have not replied to.

Not crying over spilt milk but how do normal emails go to spam. Is the problem their end or my end.

Junk Email is filtered using Bayesian filters, these work a bit like credit scoring, it calculates the probability that a message is Junk email based on many factors. These messages must have scored highly, my guess is they are from public webmail services (hotmail, yahoo, etc.) and they probably contain a lot of words associated with porn spam. You should be able to retrain your email system somewhat by marking those messages as 'not spam' and over time your email should filter fewer inquires.

So the problem is really a bit at both ends, your filter is being too aggressive, and they are probably writing emails that look like spam.

Depending on your email client, you should be able to specify how aggressive the filters are, or turn them off completely.
