Hi gents now i know that there has been alot of views about Pattaya over Phuket etc. nevertheless i am going to Phuket as a 1st timer for 2.5 weeks from Jan the 22nd. Please guys have you got any recomendations of where to go what to do? Bars or clubs?

I will stay in the blue marine hotel for the first 3 nights and then will seek accomodation, any tips here ? What kind of price should i be looking to pay for the accomodation for the remainder of my trip?

Come on now it looks like i wont be as blessed with action as Pattaya but i know you must have some good information ?

Thanks.

Where about in Phuket ?

You can get rooms from B500 per night but it depends on what you are looking for?

So not long till your off, you staying only In Phuket for 2.5 weeks, not visiting somewhere else?

Are you flying direct to Phuket or via Bkk? Once you arrive at the airport you can either take a taxi or shared minibus to Patong, but be aware you will be offered to go to other hotels, and each time I've taken transport to Patong the drivers stopped off at a travel agency.

I've not stayed at the Blue Marine, but I see It's up In the north end of Patong, good Idea to book 3 nights, gives you a chance to find something else, depends what you want, If your Into taking girls each night, and the nightlife then you will probably want to stay near Bangla road, check out the K hotel and C&N hotel, just around the corner from Bangla.

I would suggest you hire a motorbike to get around the Island during the day, will save you time and money, the taxi mafia are a rip off.

You ask of where to go and what bars, have you not done any research yet? try reading up on the WSG and ISG forums for trip reports, bars and venues can change fast, most of the nightlife Is around Bangla, read up on Patong, and don't overpay.

From what i can gather reading some pf the posts, the K-Hotel seems quite good. Mixed reviews regardint the Baramee Hip Hotel. Any other opinions on the C&N Hotel or the Thara Patong Beach Resort ? Appears slighty unclear about joiner fees with each hotel, do staff make it up as they go along with what they feel they can get away with ?

Pat Boone

If u are hoping for a relaxing vacation with plenty of sun sea and sand with punting options available, you have chosen the rite place :)

PS Hotel is a very good option as it is real close to all the action yet quiet if you dont get a room facing the street. A few years ago it cost 1000 baht

high season. You can probably bargain for a lower r8 if you intend to stay a few days. Further down the road is the PS Bungalows resort which is OK but 20 minute walk

away

I would recommend you rent a motorbike for your stay there if you intend to visit other spots on the island if only because the tuk-tuk drivers in Phuket

are among the most unpleasant people it the world  You can probably rent motorbike (Honda Dream) for around 200 bahr a day direct from the hotel you stay at.

For action, there are tons of bar beers down Soi Bangla and to the rite along the seafront but quality of lady leaves something to be desired. Worth having a nose round though.

The main nitelife spot is Tiger disco upstairs which gets a lot of freelancers, no point going there b4 about 11 PM. Nearby along the main road to the left of Soi Bangla

and near the PS Hotel are a bunch of other l8 nite disco bars

Apart from Patong, puting options are limited. Karon and Kata have bar beer areas but they are abysmal

Excellent fresh seafood in Phuket. You cant fail to have a good time

Thanks Furyogaijin some good pointers here i will take note :) The Blue Marine hotel are quite expensive although if i like it i will try and haggle another price opposed to the £160 a night one!. I have already made a few enquires to other hotels mentioned and alot of them appear to be fully booked :(

What your joking me £160 a night! You already booked It? That Is a tad overpriced!!! Hotels In Phuket can be expensive, but you don't need to pay that much, I've stayed at the K-hotel a few times, very nice deluxe rooms, great garden and pool, I paid around 1000b low season, across the road Is C&N, cheaper rooms but not bad place, your best bet Is to pop Into both one afternoon, and ask to see a room, and be prepaired to haggle on the rate, esecially If your staying more than a few nights.

Life is full of risks. I think it's a often question of sorting the big ones from the small ones. Riding a motorbike in a foreign country (especially one like Thailand, and especially when you're on holiday) is known from hard data to be a big one. Just saying give it some thought.

Thats a fair point, If It was Bkk or Pattaya I'd say don't hire a bike, as they are very busy cities, and can be dangerous to ride there. Phuket on the other hand Isn't so busy, and the problem Is that If you want to get out of Patong beach you either need to pay the overpriced taxi mafia or get a bike.

On my first trip to Thailand In '99 I hired a Honda 250cc, first time I'd ever riden a bike, rode It around the Island with my friendly tour guide, never had an accident or crash, but I never ever went drinking and driving, use the bike during the day, then park It up and head out on the beer. :P

The tuk-tuks n motorbike taxis can b a risk 2, especially at nite coz deez guyz drink which makes them even more obnoxiuos  The only relatively safe way is to walk which is even better reason to stay somewhere central like PS Hotel or C & N Hotel B)

Patong beach is not gr8 but fine if all you intend is to sunbathe n get in the water to cool off ;) Kata beach (far end) is pretty cosmic with an amazing sunset but then you got the problem of how to get there which is being discussed here

Also, if you hure a motorbike be sure to get a helmet (which fits) coa the coppers here make their wages from fining farangs riding without one

I'd walk if I was you

Yes the hotel price is very steep, i think due to the room blah blah blah ! And then they were offering the room for abot £95 a night ! As it was all last minute i thought i would suck it up and soldier on. Just pleased that i didn't tie myself in to the rest of the deal as you guys have given me some really good pointers.

In regards to the moped question :

http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//ITN/2010/09/03/T03091038/

This story made me cautious besides i've got long legs to carry me. In facy a friend of mine actually came off a bike a couple of years ago out there and more or less took a year off work as a self employed plumber when he returned to London in order to recover !

Anyway i'm just trying to get rid of this bloody cold before i venture off to Phuket !

OK I wouldnt worry about all the danger talk above. The safety thing is much better nowadays and drive slow, dont drink and drive and just let people overtake if they want to and it is fine.

If you hire a car there is lots of traffic in central in the evenings so it is a right hassle. If you can ride a bike, hire one as it is easier to get around during the day. In the evenings dont drink and drive, much the same as here.

Taxis can get very expensive if you are far away from town/beach.

Better to either find a place in central and visit other places during the day, much less headache. Also if your bored the beach area provides more entertainment and more day trips out.

For a reasonable hotel do not pay more than 1200bh £25 a night. For a really decent place £50 a night. You can hire serviced bungalow / houses which are better than 5 star hotels with all the staff for around £120 a night (try and include a free driver & car (excluding fuel) if you are paying this sort of money). Haggle with them. If they quote a price knock it down to 40% and meeting at 55% or something of the initial price.

Women.

Bar fines are around 300bh= £6.00

For a full overnight it is around 1000bh top end so £20.00, try and not pay any more as you will just cause inflation. 10pm - 10am

If you hire by the week it works out to around £150-£200 for a full 5 x 24 hrs.

It is a safe place as long as you

- are not rude to the locals

- don't take drugs

- respect local customs

- pick women that find you attractive and like you

Oh and you can also pick up women in the coffee shops, internet cafes, restaurant works, hotels etc if you find them nice - just ask, depending on your age 50-50 it is free.

If you've got the cash I would strongly recommend a 2 bed villa/ apartment for a few days in a secluded location, with a nice Jacuzzi and 4 women. You've seen it in the movies.....

Im so envious.

Yes I remember that story, that was sad, but he should of had travel Insurance. Everything In life Is a risk, even crossing the road, you just have to weigh up the risks, as has been mentioned If your staying In Patong beach you will need transport to get about the Island, as your staying 2.5 weeks It would be a waste not to take In the scenes, obviously use common sense, don't drink & drive, you'll spill your pint! take things slow.

Read some of the trip reports on WSG/ISG, It will give you some Idea. So Is It £95 a night for the room? If the walls aren't gold plated and have diamond encrusted taps you've been robbed! :o

Unbelievable price! FWIW, I am paying about that for the monthly rental on a brand new condo inc 2 flat screen TV's, 2 DVD players, 2 A/C's etc.

I think the prices quoted for the girls are a little low for Phuket, even for bar girls.

Have fun and try and learn a little Thai while you're there.

And if your not doing at least 3 women a day I will be really disappointed. Make sure you post the experience back. For those that are unable to live such a life.....I will be able to at least imagine it.

My mate was giving me his news from Koh Samui and he's been going there for the last6 years, for some reason he seems to stick to the same ladies ?! Another friend that went with him fell in love with a Thai lady last year and on returning was dissappointed to here from the gossip mongers that she had been seen with other blokes !?

I endeavour to shag for team GB !

I try to change ladies daily, but sometimes It's nice to hang out for a few days with the same one. But never fall In love with a bargirl, or she will likely make you poor.

Why do some guys pay a bargirl for sex, then believe they have a relationship?

Hi guys firstly i think i need to start work for the Thai tourism board ! How come i have left it this long to make my first visit to Thailand ! It is an adventure playground for big boys ! Each day was like starring in your own porno.

Had a complete ball in Phuket from start to finish ! Took a hit for 3 nights with the overpriced so-called 4 star hotel, not to worry it won't happen a second time. On the first night i arrived as soon as i came out the hotel complex managed to end up on a taxi moped with a go-go girl within 15 minutes !

Got guesthouse accomodation via a beautiful Nepalese tailor who i nearly smashed. Guesthouse was on Nanaai "Load" Lol !

Found it more exciting to chase the non-working ladies although that is probably a contradiction in terms as i met a pharmacy-assistant who was also a bar girl ! Ironically the one of the best shags was with one of the massage ladies who i politely suggested to skip the obligatory massage and get straight to boom boom to which she kindly obliged ! During this episode i think i saw Buddah ! Was even funnier as whilst i was plugging her 2 what i assume Swedish tourists were getting a foot massage and talking out of there arse as i had the stunner of the parlour gripping my pole with her lovebox. The look on there faces when i floated back through the parlour was worth the airfare alone, you could of heard a pin drop !

I got about 40 numbers in the 2 weeks i was there. Got spoilt on occasions where there was so much choice that i ended up going back to the guesthouse sleeping with a stonker ! All part of the fun actually found it quite funny. On one night got propostioned around Bangla by a few ladies one of which insisted that i shouldn't go into Tiger (club) as there were too many pretty ladies and then i wouldn't want her !!!

The first bird i smashed was one of three promo girls i chatted up whilst walking around Bangla, next day met outside a 7/11, how i managed to control the fucking moped back to the guesthouse with a boner and the porn version of Tia Carrera clutching onto me was a bloody miracle !

Look there is too much to say and as i look outside my window at the dull grey sky with the radio reporting nothing but doom and gloom i need to stop and kid myself that Phuket was just a dream otherwise i might just pack up everything and disappear !

Ok "Falang's" Goodbye for now "na", speak soon, remember "same same but different la"
