Comes to a pretty pass when the Torygraph is the voice of reason... Doesn't Rowan Pelling write for the Erotic Review?

Rowan Pelling certainly appears to have a good understanding of the realities.

Didn't read the article except the headline (will do, hopefully later)

Jacqui Smith is not interested in the welfare of prostitutes (headline reads)

At least she is in very good company since she is not alone in this respect, in my opinion.

Since being on this board I am beginning to wonder how many really are 'interested in the welfare of prostitutes'...Numbers not going beyond the 4digits on my left hand??

:P

Certainly used to - she often popped up on TV as a Talking Head on various shows. I wouldn't make the assumption that just because a paper publishes an opinion piece it necessarily reflects the editorial view of the publisher.

An interesting article with some interesting points but I wonder if this article is more an attempt to take a swing at Labour - which was my initial thought when I saw what I perceived as 'exaggerated' headline... rather than the prostitutes per se

Furthermore, the criminalising of kerb-crawling "as a first offence" will, in effect, create a new "Sus" law whereby police can apprehend men on the slightest pretext

Where I live this has been going on for a long time stopping and searching people, and now with this knife crime etc young boys are being and stopped and search

So not a new sus law after all...

Yes she did, and i popped up with her (Call Girls...The Truth).

Why does it have to be an 'academic' that gets an article published in a broadsheet???

I wrote a similar article over a week ago,....and all i got in reply (From Guardian) was: 'Well we are snowed under with the Labour conference at the moment'

That is all very well, but would it not be nice to have comment from a person ACTUALLY WITH A KNOWLEDGE FROM INSIDE THE FREAKING INDUSTRY??'

Funnily enough, they ran a comment piece "I'm a sex worker – don't take away my livelihood" by a northern based escort, who used the pseudonym Lara, in the Comment is Free section of their website, from Wednesday - Saturday &, at 1008 comments (one was actually added by a kiwi 3 days after the thread closed to everyone else), it was probably amongst the best subscribed they've ever had.

I dare say that they will publish more comment pieces in the light of Smith's speech; ince Bindel & co have figured out how to word it in such a way that they can argue that they are doing both independents & parlour workers a favour.
