This has now become a real bore. Threads getting closed one after the other with or without explanantion. Boring.......

I agree entirely, or even worse when a thread disappears into cyberspace --- but sadly we are not allowed to question moderation. ;)

I'm guessing this is a reference to the now closed "Worst Escort" thread.

As I posted when I locked it, anyone with useful info to add, can PM me, and then the thread may reopen. Just letting the thread run on as an all out bitchfest isn't very useful or edifying imo.

I think this poll should be locked without warning ;)

I would rarely disagree with moderation on here, but It's a great shame to see one of the better threads locked, when there has been no real nastiness and some good humour (largely at the expense of the unfortunate Neha).

Having to ask for prior permission to post is not going to be conducive to wide-ranging debate; if every thread had to stick 100% on-topic this forum would become very dull indeed.

I think it's only fair to give some indication why a thread has been locked. If we don't know what's been deemed unacceptable, how we can we possibly adjust our behaviour? Even if you're up on a murder rap, they tell you what you're charged with!

(Unless, of course, you're done under the anti-terrorism laws that say that you can't be permitted to know what's held against you in case it gives away state secrets.) I doubt that the Pnet mods would want to follow such an extreme example!

I think it is good manners to give at least a clue as to why a thread has been locked, however a moderator must do what a moderator must do in what ever way he/she deems to be appropriate, and if that necessitates the abandoning of good manners then so be it, good manners are always appreciated but rarely expected.

I think some mods have too much time on their hands. Knitting recommended...

The answer is yes, they should - but don't they?

Ignoring stickies, I've only found about one recent locked thread in 20 where there was no explanation attached, and in that instance the reason was obvious. Can you quote a couple of recent examples of what you're concerned about?

Of course, I can't comment on deleted threads unless I've noticed they've gone, like the new one on Sophie on the Sensual Massage board yesterday! ;)

I have never seen a thread with so many members in agreement. ;)

A little bit scary, perfect time to lock the thread I think.

Original post deleted as it quoted a deleted post.

Are there many threads that are closed where the Mod who closes it has not given an adequate explanation as to the reason?

I had a quick shufti around and could not see too many.

I think mods should be banned from posting, but should just linger in the background and delete any posts they think are naughty.

And who do you think would take this voluntary and unpaid job if they were banned from posting?

I note nobody actually gave me the information I asked for though eh?

Anyway, Clarence knows how much money we get paid into an offshore account for doing this, you can't fool him!! ;)

You forgot to mention the Green Shield stamps we get for issuing Infractions

Do you HONESTLY think we are going to search through the archives to find information that would make little difference anyway. ;)

What about the threads that totally disappear for no reason ------- such as the thread I started informing Crystal's fans that she was returning to the UK.

Could we have a comment from the five people who voted "no" in the poll, we are unable to see who actually voted no.

You could invite Superego to start another conspiracy theory. :o

BTW, I didn't vote.

I could, however the phrase "let sleeping dogs lie" comes to mind.

I voted Yes because I have always had that as a personal policy.

I have also asked Galahad if it is possible to show deleted threads in the relevant section as "deleted" with the name of the Mod that deleted it and also the reason.

However some folk would not like to see the reasons sometimes.

As at least one Mod is not working at present, and two have said they are not one of the five then another conspiracy theory bites the dust. ;)

In my humble opinion a thread should NEVER be closed unless it falls foul of Punternet rules (underage girls, transexuals etc).

When a thread has run it's course and is no longer of interest it will soon die naturally and disappear into the archives.

If a thread is starting to get "out of hand" then those miscreants should be dealt with rather than close the thread completely.

Just my opinion. :D:rolleyes:
