Parlour Shopfronts

14 posts in this topic

Why is it that parlour shopfronts are so blatant? What I mean by that is that a lot of parlour shopfronts are brightly coloured and stand out in the general architecture of a street.

How come this is so? Wouldn't it put off punters, or alert persons in the neighbourhood of what goes on there? OK, we all know that prostitution per se is not illegal. But brightly coloured decor only seeks to rouse up the prudes in the neighbourhood, no?

All the parlours I have visited have very anonymous entrances so I don't quite know what you mean?

To attract those walking past who might be enticed in. Wouldnt put me off but it certainly alerts neighbours and anyone who is anti-prostitution. If there are more than two WGs inside it is a brothel and illegal and depends on the attitude of the local police as to whether they allow it to operate or not, a change in plod could mean bye bye brothel.

IMO its smarter to be more discreet as the only Parlour i use is which is just a doorway leading to a flight of stairs, and like this Parlour, have only one WG working per day.

But with the internet and the newspapers to advertise in, then it shouldn't matter should it?

It simply gives local prudes more ammunition to close the places down (or more accurately to lobby for the police to step in).

The owners of the one in the BBC article cant be very bright, no planning permission and opening next to a school, obviously going to get complaints about that.

A private sex shop opened in a very conservative area of the London Borough Of Barnet with no planning permission or licence so sold softcare porn which was 18 certificate, within weeks locals had complained and it was soon closed down, it had sex aids in the window display for all to see. Made me wonder how intelligent private were, a study of the area would of shown them such a shop wouldnt get a licence.

It obviously doesnt matter to the Parlour i go to who have their own website. These you have mentioned must get walk-in off the street business and enough of it to continue being so obvious i assume.

I would have no problem going in but i would be shitting it leaving incase someone spotted me lol.

I once came out of a parlour and there was a bus parked right outside!

No place to hide, I got some strange looks from the passengers.

not quite true. a brothel is where 2 or more girls work even if not at the same time. so if they have sandra on on mondays, hilda on tuesdays, gladys on wednesdays, gloria on thursdays and jane on fridays its still a brothel.

None of those are quite as good as this one in Frankfurt :)

I've never been to anywhere in this country with an obvious shopfront and I think I prefer the discreetness of most flats. Although if common sense ever prevailed and they legalised brothels, I assume we'd end up with more of them based in commercial type properties, as it would be unlikely they would get approval to be based in residential blocks of flats.

In Germany, it's more legally tolerated and embraced than it is here. There are even escort/brothel-dedicated areas in major German cities.

Whilst prostitution is not illegal in our country, parlours cannot fall back on greater legal acceptance as parlours can in Germany. As has been said, I think parlours in the UK only shoot themselves in the foot by having such bright and open shopfronts.
