Parlour Boss Jailed

13 posts in this topic

A woman with no previous convictions has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment in Lancashire. This despite the fact that no trafficking was involved and that VAT/Tax were paid. Compare and contrast with the punishment given to the owner of the Toucan Club in Manchester earlier this month.

Some parlours continue to operate with impunity yet others are raided and closed. Totally baffling.

As far as I'm aware Liverpool constabulary have a low to zero tolerance towards brothels, as opposed to Manchester where a reasonable level of tolerance exists.

In those circumstances I would have expected a suspended prison sentence. That's what you would normally expect for a guilty plea, no coercion or trafficked girls and a relatively low level of profits. I think that she was probably unlucky with the judge. Some drugs were found although there's no obvious mention of that in the sentencing. I suspect also that the police and CPS pushed for an immediate custodial sentence harder than perhaps they would have done if the brothel had been in the GMP area.

Is there anything in the sentencing guidelines about this sort of case? The vagaries of the justice system and individual judges never cease but to amaze.

Incidentally the picture in the press attachment makes it look as though this parlour was being run in two shipping containers.

Shouldn't selective enforcement actually be grounds for appeal?

It seems to be a clear violate of the fundamental principle that justice is supposed to be blind.

I love these newspaper reports that get so excited about the finding of sex toys and underwear.

And why did the police need to take over 100 photos? Some were apparently of clients who of course were not breaking any law. Surely this is an invasion of their privacy.

This isn't uncommon, I suppose you might say that at the time they had 'reasonable suspicion' there were crimes being committed on the premises.

There is no indication that any one was harmed in any way. But people carrying knives are routinely just given a caution.

Standard procedure.

Somewhere deep in the heart of Garda Siochana HQ there is a file with pictures of various pieces of bondage

equipment and toys which once belonged to me.

I always wondered what happened to the "evidence" after a trial. ;)

Unless its money or items of value like jewelery etc that are subject to confiscation it actually gets given back. Im not sure how it works elsewhere other than England but certainly in my case they did me the courtesy of bringing everything back in an unmarked van including a many number of things I hadnt even realised they had and even more I didnt want. Took hours to sign it all back as they have a stupid rule that they cant give it to you in the evidence bags!

Do they have the same kind of tolerance towards ordering a escort in Liverpool i wonder?

prostitution is not illegal, nor is paying for sex. You will not be committing any crime.
