A Question About Legality

9 posts in this topic

I'm sorry if this question or a very similar question has been asked here before but I've gotten conflicting answers when trying to find out the truth. If I were to arrange for outcall with an escort and have her meet me at my apartment or a hotel, would that be illegal? Thank you in advance.

would that be illegal?

Not illegal. You shouldn't really have received conflicting answers to that question.

Without wishing to sound xenophobic, "gotten" has not been anglo-english for several centuries, and while "appartment" is occasionally used in the UK, most natives use "flat" - so, I should qualify my respected colleague's short answer, adding "... in United Kingdom jurisdictions." at the end.

I understand that in several American jurisdictions, and, of course, in Sweden, it is criminal to pay a woman for sex.

Forgive my fondness for linguistic anachronisms but I actually have a fondness for 'gotten'. If it was good enough for the King James' bible it's good enough for me. :P

Flat is common word in the punter's lexicon, but I think apartment has significant if not greater currency amongst the wider public, although, yeah, I'm being pedantic... poster sounds like they're from t'other side of the pond, where to be even more pedantic, but my understanding was that paying for (as well as selling) sex is illegal everywhere apart some counties of Nevada. ;)

Er, yes! When quibbling at someone else's language, it is always better to get one's own spelling right, as in "apartment" with only one "p"! Even so, I guess that the OP (with his pseudo) is a US resident, probably a Texan. Whether, however, he was asking about the scene in the UK or somewhere else wasn't that clear!

"Gotten" was certainly OK for the first Queen Elizabeth, and went over to North America with the early colonists, who have retained it, but here it is no longer couth!

Never even noticed your typo ha! Oh the fun I could have had with that, eh?

Like I said (wrote, even) I like linguistic anachronisms and have a strange fondness (perhaps as a result of being an erstwhile student of American literature) for gotten. My bad, but heh?

If the lady was being forced or coerced to see you then technically you could be arrested, charged and convicted under the most recent changes to the laws re prostitution - I'm sure someone else can point you to the new laws online if you want to read them directly.
