Would You Ever Risk The Public Eye

28 posts in this topic

I'm asking this from the punters perspective but can see that it would equally apply to a working girl. With a history if paying or receiving money for sex would you ever risk a career in the public eye where moderate success could make you enough of a target for tabloids looking for skeletons in closets or could make your profile public enough that some punters/working girls from the past would link the new you with your former self?

If it helps to focus on a specific career the obvious example would be politics. Anyone with a history of punting (on either side) who became successful enough in politics would stand a risk of being publicly outed at some stage (by a former punter/working girl looking to sell a story or by a story hunting journalist). It would be for the individual contemplating a public career to decide how likely it is their profile would become suitably high, and how costly it would be for them to be outed. So I guess my questions is how likely do you think it is that someone in the public profile with a past of punting/escorting would be outed?

As for reason for the post, I'm at a bit of a junction in my life and one of several options I'm considering could potentially lead to my profile becoming public though if that happened at all it wouldn't be for several years down the line.

I can't possibly see how it could work if one wanted to become a politician for example. The media have had numerous field days with various MP indiscretions over the years. If you had that level of profile, it would probably only be a matter of time before you got outed with all the resultant fall out in your professional and private lives.

Are you thinking of become a local councillor by chance?

If you are moolighting as a wg from certain jobs, eg police, nursing, teaching, you will possibly lose your job if outed. Punters are treated much more leniently, and their actual status rises in some cases, eg hugh grant. If you work for the prosecution service in scotland or england, you will lose your job. Archer got into trouble for perjury, not hookers, ditto Jonathan Aitken. The british are relaxed about sexual escapades, its dishonesty that makes them mad.

Whatever people think of the tabloid press they are usually very, very careful about stories regarding famous people for fear of being sued. So any editor would ask a WG if she had any solid evidence that you saw her in the past. It would not be enough for her to phone up the paper and say: "You know that Quintin Bloggs MP? He used to pay me for sex." However, what would happen is that the paper would tap your phone and follow you around in the hope you are still punting.

Surely the first big hurdle to outing you (unless organs of state security are vetting you) is to be able to conclusively show that Pinkshirt (blokes wi' pink shirts traditionally didn't go wi' girls, if you get my drift, but) is one and the same as the Rt Hon the Lord Bishop of London (or whoever else you may be intending to become).

If you indulge in 1 or 2 hour dalliances, I assume you pay in cash, and make your booking as "John"?

It is only when your meetings are longer (= more expensive) and/or you travel overseas together that your "real" identity is going to be revealed to the other party, and, I'd hope that you would know her well enough before you went off with her into the wide blue yonder, to be sure of her professional discretion?

--

PS Incidentally, I do know that "organs of state security" are not concerned with your morals, but with your susceptibility to pressure aka blackmail. If, in your particular milieu, a bloke only sleeps with his wife if he's too tired to find something better, then they will tolerate pretty well anything, provided, of course, you are straight with the faceless man who interviews you.

If smart you punt anoynomously so reducing the risk of people finding out, if really concerned dont even post on punting forums and keep it totally to yourself. Who knows what the press could dig up but i do know a punter posting on here was outed so it does happen sadly.

A friend of mind who applied for a senior appointment with HM Government underwent vetting at home by 2 individuals. Whilst his wife was in the kitchen making them a cup of tea they asked him outright whether he was a homosexual. He became very indignant at this suggestion and threw them both out of his house.

Needless to say he never got the job.

Ooh, I have to say I don't agree with this. There will always be the 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' type (the Daily Mail is Britain's second biggest-selling daily newspaper, which is a very scary fact IMHO). Plus, punters usually have wives/girlfriends/children/mothers/Great Aunt Mabels

Positive Vetting would get to the bottom of this in no time at all. If the prospect you are considering might involve PV then forget it. You would be caught out in minutes.

I suggest you consider entering the Catholic Ministry where such aberrations seem to be viewed more leniently, especially if conducted with young boys.

It did occurr to me that if I ever did somehow become famous it might come out in the press and that would be worrying but yes, unless there was some hard evidence that I got up to what I have gotten up to in the past it's very unlikely it would ever get that far. In my case, there's possibly a photographer who has one picture of me with a girl about 5 years ago but he probably wouldn't remember me anyway and the girl moved to the US soon afterwards too.

On the positive side, I used to work for a national newspaper and discovered there's an unwritten rule in the tabloid press that the the girl will always be quoted as saying that you were a fantastic lover even if you were crap:)

Thanks for the comments all, very helpful

I dont think it as likely that a public figure would be outed as suggested.

The problem is whilst its possible to count outed MPs its impossible to count those that kept their secrets secret. With roughly 500 male mps and as estimate of 1 in 10 men paying for sex at some point in their lives you'd expect 50 odd mps to be "out-able" but the number of stories isn't nearly that high.

And no Im not thinking of local councillor

Archer got into trouble for perjury, not hookers, ditto Jonathan Aitken. The british are relaxed about sexual escapades, its dishonesty that makes them mad.

Very good point, so I guess preparing for the worst means preparing how to admit the truth to friends, family and public and not preparing not how to cover up.

Another very good point, and whilst its not impossible I doubt any evidence would remain of my punting much after the event so quitting the habit well in advance of public eye should be a fairly effective precaution

PS Incidentally, I do know that "organs of state security" are not concerned with your morals, but with your susceptibility to pressure aka blackmail. Its not state security I'm thinking of, I say public eye not big brother's eye... I also have some familiarity with positive vetting and and from what I'm aware they want to know of any unusual porn habits, sexual habits, drug habits. They want them in the open and to know for sure they are behind you so they cant be used as blackmail. Once they establish that they may look at past transgressions as bad character traits but they'll weigh that up against services you have to offer, same as any interview.

It's never been a problem for me and I'm the Mayor of London

Oh how I wish you are Boris and sat there thinking "Hmmm is this a trap for me, some kind of Trojan Horse perhaps, the safest thing is to tell them I am Boris. I am safe. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?"

errrr back on track

Ive come to the conclusion that as my punting was low level (no weekend punts abroad etc) evidence will likely quickly disappear and it's likely I'd be safe moving to a public role, though not safe to continue punting. But its probably best to figure out what story to give incase skeletons do ever pop out of closets.

And finally doing a bit more research on recent outings or similar makes me think old skeletons might not get too much attention as I dont remember this story breaking

It's tne notion of cheating usually on a partner that makes the news ... when punting becomes as accepatble as going down the pub or out to football then it will stop being news.

Swinging couples who happily play with others seldom make the news.

If you're in the public eye, or likely to come into view then punting is not for you. I personally wouldn't take the risk. Go abroad and get your jollies.

I used to work in an industry that employed security vetting. Although nothing untoward ever occurred and I never mentioned my real job, it was always a nagging concern that if discovered I could lose my position. Fortunately I no longer work so am spared that worry.

Good advice but a guy might be a punter then unexpectedly get a job in the public eye or become famous so keeping your punting to yourself is the best thing to do in my opinion. :)

With our press/media if the Pope won the lottery they would find he had a daughter somewhere !! Quite a funny thing happened to me many years ago when I went into a parlour 20 miles from home and my boss was sat in the lounge chatting to the girls !! we looked at each other laughed caught the train home together then spent many happy hours swapping numbers of good times we had had !!

It's generally the case that it's not the sin which catches people out but the cover up.

An old boss of mine, who was a middle ranking manager in a large firm - UK top 100, got outed by the Sunday People. He was booking escorts using his corporate phone, meeting them during working hours and (this was not confirmed) claiming the money back somehow via expenses.

Why he got outed I have no idea, apart from his was a real #### to work for and somebody must have really had it in for him.

Why this was in the public's interest or anybodies interest is beyond me. <_<

Sounds to me misuse of company owned equipment, misuse of company time, fraud and generally lax behaviour. I would imagine all this would have been in the company'e interest at least.

For Gents it is easier to hide, past punting (indiscretions) if you like.

For women not so much, due to the amount of advertising and photographic evidence, which is why so many blur their faces and have tattoo's photoshopped out.

That said, The question you would have to ask yourself, would be this...

Are you ashamed that you either paid for or sold sex in the past?

I for one am not and never have been. and I defy anyone who would say otherwise, about myself, including a tabloid paper.

I know exactly why I got into this profession, and at the end of the day the only person who I need to justify myself to is myself.

If I am paying tax etc, I really couldn't give a rats ass about anyone's opinion, because to be quite frankly honest they do not pay my bills.

So I sold sex big deal, it's not illegal, i did it for various reasons, and I bettered myself into a position where I could help (in a public based job) that is all anyone needs to know.

Besides todays papers wil be lining tomorrows cat litter trays.

Have to say that I think exactly the same. If I was ever outed, I hope I would have the guts to turn round and say the truth i.e. "I'm really happy I did it; I thoroughly enjoyed it; I kept my marriage together and my kids happy for longer than would otherwise have been the case and I have no regrets". I am sure I would be lynched and hope I would stand up for myself no matter what the consequences.
