What Was It Like In The Good Old Days...

...and were they actually good?

As a newcomer to the world of punting, I'm curious how punting has changed over the decades. If there's anyone here that has been a punter or WG over the years how has your experience changed during the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s?

Oh, and how do you get a subtitle in the post title?

I have punted since the mid-80s so pre-Internet. In those days i located my punts in the local paper, newsagents windows, phone box cards and indirect and direct contact magazines. Apart from a phone call every punt was a step in the dark from the point of view of till the WG opened her door i very rarely had any idea what she was going to look like.

This was the time of AIDS so panic was afoot but i had good punts and bad but a huge personal difference then to now is i wasnt fussy in my youth, the WG would have to be horrific in my view for me to walk then. It was more amateur in those days which sometimes meant getting longer than paid for but kissing was very rarely on offer as that was for a partner only as WGs used to say and in terms of services on offer generally its unbelievably better nowadays with vastly more choice. Overall now is the best time to be a punter in my 28 years prices have gone down in real terms allowing for inflation, services on offer have never been more extensive and competition is king. Its a great example of the free market at its best and long may it continue. :)

in the last 20 years i have gone from newsagents windows and local rags/loot/dalton's weekly to only using the net to find ladies

this device has also enabled punters to find the fabled GFE or any other kink they want

nowadays you can get an hours suck and fuck for less than the price of a movie and nando's

I started in the 70s, pre Internet and pre AIDs. Finding the girls was the biggest problem; local newspapers and cards in windows were the best source, also there seemed to be more street girls. However there was a big element of uncertainty - until the door opened you had no idea what to expect.

In those pre AIDs days bareback was very common, probably the norm. Then pacic when AIDs appeared - everything was covered.

In my view todays scene is the best it has ever been; plenty of choice and lots of information sources on the net. We punters are spoilt today compared with yesteryear. Price wise punting is probably cheaper in real terms than it has ever been.

Long may it last

Internet was probablyh the best thing that happened to this business.

Much more transparent now.

And much easier to enter, both as provider or as customer.

An example of free market, if ever there was one.

Punting is a great example of the free market in action and great it is for punters ensuring prices have gone down in actuality and/or in real terms and services are far more extensive than in the past, a great time to be a punter. :)

I started punting in the 70's and it is definitely better now because you can see internet photos of the girl before you visit. Before this you had the cards in phone boxes with "Genuine Photo" on them which of course was not true. In the 70's you had to rely on cards in newsagents or adverts in local newspapers.Back then the girls were mainly caucasian and from the UK.

Started in the 70's and, yes it is so much easier now! Back in the day we had to use shop window cards which gave very little more information than a phone number.

Then you had to call and speak to a maid who would run through her patter like a clock work machine. If you were lucky you might be able to ask a question but then you got the address and off you went.

Booking was rare; you turned up and might have to wait a bit but punts were generally a 20 minute job so it wan't too long.

Talk about the Good Old Days!!

yep.

would almost be tempted to use it in classroom as example of Free Market, benefiting from increased transparancy.

No owo, no kissing, no reverse oral. Much better now (if more prone to catching something).

These are the good old days. My first experiences in the 90's involved arranging to see a succession of "beautiful 22 YEAR OLDS" at massage parlours ..who had strangely been replaced by their mothers by the time I rang the doorbell.

I started in London in the early 80's and relied mainly on the ads in the back of a certain London Listings magazine, now defunct, which carried ads for escorts. As the Internet was years away, there was photos to go on so I had to learn to rely on the quality of an adverts wording when choosing.

I found that by scrutinising the adverts carefully I could get a pretty good idea of the lady in the ad, as often they seemed to have a way with words. Usually I found the adverts I went after pretty accurate - one lady told me it was in their interest to be accurate because to do otherwise, could lead to a lot of hassle / trouble from disgruntled punters.

Also I found that another good indicator in picking a girl was to pay great attention when making the initial call, Clearly how the call was answer and how the lady spoke gave an indication. However the other trick was to listen to what was going on in the background. Lots of chaotic noise, other conversations, dogs barking, loud TV playing = bad. Quiet, soft music / radio playing, budgerigar (yes once) = good.

Years later, I recall 4 lovely women I found that way and none of them disappointed.

Good things when I started- most girls native English speakers, so always some conversation on common ground or interests.

Bad things- no internet and reviews, no kissing, owo a rarity. I had less money then too.

When I started in escorting ( and that was quite some time ago ) it was very much a case of like it or lump it as far as the

clients were concerned. The agencies placed ads in the back of a magazine with a picture of a champagne glass for

example and a phone number, that was it.

The clients called up, were given descriptions of the ladies which made them sound like runners up for the Miss World

contest and then the lady was packed off in a taxi to the outcall. I was the first of my friends to have a mobile phone

which resembled a brick. :D

There was no comeback for the clients, nowhere to review and complaints were just scoffed at.

Out of curiosity I checked my 'Field Reports by Author' (author's name being Gordon), to find the earliest recorded is in 2000. I don't think the archive is very reliable, because I have filed more and earlier reports than appear under my name, and one report there is not by me.

Anyway, pre-internet and pre-1990s I seem to remember there was a sort of newsletter circulated by subscription for what Vivastreet France calls "No tomorrow" meetings. See the current page for Calais area below

http://rencontre-adulte.vivastreet.fr/annonces-rencontre-coquine-sexe+nord-pas-de-calais

I have forgotten what the newsletter was called, but it provided a phone number for a girl with a flat in the Hagley Rd., Bham, who gave me my first experience of OWO/CIM.

And when looking back to good-old-days, would you experienced participants think things have gotten "safer" for both parties ?

I'd suspect with the added internet transparancy, both parties, WL and (responsible, conscious) Punter are actually safer.

I'd go as far as to say that current (internet-)transparancy as we have it now makes life harder for the exploitative participants which the PC brigade wants to combat so eagerly.

on the contrary, mandatory registration and regulating the industry (as Germany and some other contries seem to try), is probably counterproductive due to the stigma attached to being a WL (imagine stating "prostitute" on a mortgage application...).
