An Analysis Of 5000 Punternet Reports

25 posts in this topic

A brilliant if slightly flawed piece of work where his sample was based on FRs from the top 10 most populous UK cities which therefore excluded Milton Keynes ;) ... as well as Newcastle and Nottingham which are both in the top 10 location sources for FRs.

The infographic at the end was great - thoroughly entertaining stuff!

I feel very humble. And the fact car parking features so highly in field reports is a classic. It's like the scene in SEx Lives of the Potato men where the men are gang banging an escort and start taking about where they parked their cars and the best place.

The overall picture I took away is that we are happy little campers indeed. Though shallow and emotianally unconnected.

And concerned about car parking

Sorry - I thought it was an analysis of 5000 reviews by John Millward and I was wondering where he got

a - the money

b - the time

c - the energy

But it wasn't. It was somewhat tedious toot.

Little surprise in content, but quite interesting to see a disinterested party write an objective article.

Can't help wonder if he was one recent deluge of the newbies asking questions.

I do think he must have spent a fair bit of time doing research in preparation before writing that article, and he deserves credit for that imo. It is easy to forget the extent to which the punting world has a vocabulary of terms and acronyms not encountered anywhere else. I can recall first reading Pnet, and gradually grasping the meanings of all these (then) unfamiliar terms.

or so he writes...

I'd be surprised if _any_ man can read 5000 FRs and not be tempted to go try...

I'd wager something that

He either alredy has, or will in the near future see an escort.

But if he is wise, he never divulges.

And also go to "Google Scholar" and enter "punternet" as a search term-quite a lot of academic studies using punternet...some of which you can download for free if you are so inclined.

It's not clear if he actually read all 5000. I got the impression from his article that he skimmed a sample but automatically captured the text from the FRs (using something like screen scraping perhaps?) Then he automatically calculated the word frequency. He then used illustrative examples from a further sample.

So, is there any plans to do a proper anaylsis of the FRs.

Wonder what the real results would be?

I did an "brief" analysis of the last 500 FRs a while ago for postive and negative but I wonder what the proper results should be...

In what way? How do you consider this improper? As internet studies go it is pretty well thought out, no apparent bias, a pretty clearly stated and straightforward mythology and little (no) evidence of unjustified speculation.

Yup

He could of saved himself some time and just looked at the FR stats page. http://www.punternet...rs/fr_stats.php

Probably made the stats more accurate....

I disagree; yes his stats are different but they are more focused on specific Cities in a way that is clearly documented. It could easily be argued that a more focused study with additional (geographical) constrains is more accurate than the more general stats provided for the National picture.
