Facebook: Two Identities Showing Each Other As Potential Friends

23 posts in this topic

A bit worrying: I have two identities on Facebook: one based on this punternet user ID and e-mail adddress and my real persona.

Logging on today to FB, I see that my real persona is being suggested as a friend and visa versa.

IP address?

Should I be worried?

A bit more worrying but also less deserving: I have an alias on the other site brought about by logging on for a service provider who could access the internet.

I saw myself on a feedback with a red number 12 (or was it a separate 1,2??) so I deactivated myself.

Am I in a queue for the guillotine? Must I stay deactivated for life now?

Is the SP in danger of being banned, labelled a cheat or anything?

Sorry, I have hijacked a thread (although already given a good answer) and perhaps tipped this into thread for the requests for info forum and also discussed the other site - can't do anything right these days...

Yes, I know, but how did it associate the two? All the details are totally different, the only common factors are the two PCs that are used to access the two accounts.

Often friends of friends of friends can be suggested, is this possible?

I doubt it, my punting profile is completely false and the only friends that I have are escorts or friends of escorts. The escorts are showing their real pictures and names, though not what they do(!), the friends of escorts appear as friends of the escorts and I assume are showing their real pictures since the escorts would think it a bit strange.

Does that make sense?

The only friend suggestion on either of my profiles is the other profile, never either of the profiles friends if you see what I mean!

I still think is the IP numbers!

I just won't go on there, it worries me how much information can be found on facebook.

Hm, have had a similar clash of worlds on Facebook. Have you ever just searched for one alias while logged into the other? I reckon Facebook gives friend suggestions based on people who've searched your details, which is mildly concerning in itself.

Gave a girl my mobile number a while back, nothing really came of it, but then a few weeks later she popped up as a suggested friend on Facebook! Didn't even know each others full names or email addresses, but I googled my phone number and it revealed them, so the only explanation I can think of is that she did the same then managed to find my profile on Facebook based on that info - and because she searched for me, she shows as a suggestion. Freaked me out a bit!

I believe Facebook and hotmail (Possibly some other free email clients too) work together (This can be changed in your settings somewhere, correct me if im wrong)

Your 'suggested friends' is driven by two things:

1) Friends of current friends

2) Accounts on facebook linked to email addresses in your email history/ address directory

So if youve ever sent an email from your email address that is associated with your escort FB profile to the email address that is associated with your 'everyday' FB profile (Or vice versa) that is likely whats trifggered it

If you log into Facebook via your phone though it searches any listed numbers. :-s

I reckon that is it, thanks. Luckily my punting FB profile has no picture and it says I live in xxxxxx whereas I don't!

I wonder if FB will get forgetful if I don't search for somone for a while?

That's interesting: I set up a different purple site profile since a lady (who herself had two profiles, so I thought it was fair game) that I had seen some time ago was auto deleting my e-mails, she came back almost instantly, saying that she thought I was someone else.

'Fair cop' I said. So that is how its done?

IME only if you explicitly search for friends using the Facebook app.

Only have the one ID, but they keep suggesting I should be friends with my ex wife. No matter what they say, that's not going to happen.

If she was auto deleting your emails wouldnt it just have been easier to move on and leave it be.x

also, its rather worrying when someone sends you an email and they are showing up as having 12 different alias's..why would anyone need that many

Yes and I did.

But I was interested in the mechanics of what SPs see and have in their profiles versus what we as punters see.

See post below/above. I have no need for 12, but am beginning to think I should have one as an SP, just to see how you see us?

And what do purple WG's see about us? I've often wondered this.

I'd be interested to know what purple tells you ladies about us punters.

Given time, or if one of us could be arsed, one of us could set a profile up and see what happens? It would be interesting to see what we can get away with before someone on here dobs us in!

Problem is, if, as I suspect, this and other sites can see our IP numbers, one might not get away with it.

Well when I saw red numbers next to my name I wasnt sure if it was 1 2 as in has two aliases (I couldn't click n them and get any info) or if it was 12.

I had only helped the sp so that would have been 2 but you now mention 12 Chloe and I wonder if that was actually list 1,2 too?
