Croydon Advertiser Removes Ads For Wgs

14 posts in this topic

The Croydon Advertiser newspaper has finally succumbed to pressure from bigots and stopped adverts for brothels, escort agencies and independent sex workers. It means that a number of women are now going to have their lives made poorer because they will have fewer clients.

The Croydon Community Against Trafficking organization (CCAT) and the police are using the issue of trafficking to do what they can to stop prostitution. However, there is no evidence that trafficking exists on any scale in Britain, especially of children. Decriminalisation, as in New Zealand, would help eliminate what small amount of trafficking there is.

There is an article in another newspaper explaining what has happened here, and there is a blog post about it here.

The sexually repressed seizing upon a Trojan horse to do their dirty work for them.

if moral supremacist groups spent as much time and effort in fighting poverty as they do in preaching morality, perhaps there would'nt be any prostitution

I think it's a Christian group - "Christo-fascist". Probably run by some guy who's sexually repressed/psychotic and is fascinated with with sex/prostitutes and would love to do it with them but can't becasue he's so totally fucked up.

Like those Southern US preachers who condemn homosexuality and then get caught coming back from a holiday with a young man who's a male prostitute.

If there i s so much trafficking in Croydon why are the Police not making arrests and cracking down on the guilty brothels. threatening newspapers that carry ads won't solve anything. In fact it will make make it more difficult for the police to find these alleged dens of iniquity. Most likely result is that prostitution in Croydon will be driven underground with a real danger of trafficking.

it could be argued that ccat has links to organised crime- they work with the met who have had officers receiving illegal payments from news of the world and they also have links to the religious industry where the catholic chuch in ireland & usa was involved in covering up the paedophilia by priests,

so using the logic that ccat use to justify stopping the ads, ccat are linked to organised crime

If there are lots of trafficked women, why can't the police find them? If they can't find them now, it's not going to be easier for them if the sex industry is denied advertisements.

I've been researching working in Europe instead of London, and the big surprise is that I'll be able to advertise in the mainstream national press.

These are Countries with better welfare states, better gender equality and tougher immigration controls & less concern about trafficking because there is more openess about sexuality.

Its a shame. Entirely revenue based though. I work in this industry and we've had to stop taking such ads after moral complainers lobbied other advertisers.

From a moral standpoint, the media doesn't care (certainly not the advertising dept - they need this money!). However, if it starts to spook other more lucrative advertisers - the only option is to pull the plug on the Escort ads.

Couldn't come at a worse time for most media like this, fewer people reading the papers and local papers closing every week. Ironically given where we're discussing this, its Online that is killing them..

Not sure but have come across ads that advertise all services for a tenner for almost one hour. Wonder what that means?? not that I can afford to pay much but who would wanna ask for this ridiculously little amount??

I've seen those £10/hr massage ads too in the free local Ad papers, and the same numbers appear on-line linked to towns up and down the country.

If it looks too good to be true...

Funny really! Lord Leveson and his current inquiry are very clear that a free and independant press is, objectively, a "good thing". Suggest censorship to any editor, and I think he'll be rather more offended than if you asked him to bring his daughter out for you to screw....

but...

apparently it is different for the moral crusaders?

Yes it does look too good. Anyone tried or contacted any of those places for a tenner? And also, don't tell me that it was also in the Croydon Advertiser!?
