Kings Cross, Have They Cleaned It Up?

9 posts in this topic

There was a time every night you would see WGs, pimps, drug dealers, drunks and other undesirables in the area, Sometimes even in broad daylight! That seems like years ago, or in the last century even. I seem to notice whenever i have driven through the area at night i have seen none of the above. Was it to do the with re generation of the station and the eurotunnel link? Did the authorities clamp down on the vice etc in order to get the said re generation? How did they do it? Where did they push the vice, drugs etc to then?

In case you've not noticed, St Pancras station has undergone a major rebuild and is now a major tourist arrival and departure point for Eurostar.

Then 2 weeks ago, a new £500 million concourse was opened at Kings Cross. Next will be a new public square in front of Kings cross.

Yes, it is all part of the regeneration that brought in new hotels, other facilities and the street whores have moved elsewhere. Exactly where, I care not as I dont do street girls and neither should you !

There are still plenty of girls in the Euston and Kings Cross areas offering incalls and hotels to book for outcalls.

The regeneration has made it a much nicer area.

With a name like Finsbury I would have thought that a look in his local paper would give him the answer.

However, as Taggart points out, the area has been sanitised almost beyond recognition, and a good job too. The new St Pancras station/hotel is wonderful, even though I can't afford to drink at the champagne bar, the new British Museum is a great place to pas an hour or two and I now love visiting that part of town.

I'm a Londoner & worked for a time in a building off York Rd in Kings Cross in the early 90s. Put it this way the neighbourhood was not the most salubrious of places! They have worked wonders in recent years. I love all the buildings mentioned above plus also the British Library in St Pancras. I spent a day there recently. Fascinating.

I absolutely love Kings Cross these days. Yes, it has definitely been cleaned up the regeneration has made a hugh difference and there are some really great places to go out. I've got friends who live in the area so I am often travelling through Kings Cross late in the evening after visiting them and I have never felt unsafe.

Apparently there are still some ladies on the streets if that's your thing and you know where to look but it is far from the blatant days of 10 years ago.

My understanding is that Camden Council aggressively took asbos out against the girls working there, and they pretty much all disappeared. This did also coincide with the explosion in the use of the internet, I suspect there were girls there who could hold it together sufficiently well to go into proper escorting. I still stay in the area when I go down to London and see very little in the way of street workers anymore. There do seem to be many more girls begging outside Euston station. I would be fairly sure most of them would turn a trick for you if you were that desperate.

I did also think posts on the street scene were strictly off limits these days!?

I took this thread to be about an area that used to have a problem but no longer does. I can't believe that breaks the rules.
