Prices Going Down?

53 posts in this topic

I have been punting now for coming up to 2 years and it seems obvious to me that the prices that are being charged have not changed or in some cases I am seeing better girls for less. Maybe I am getting better at spotting VFM but given the standard agency price of £150 and £200 is unchanged and we have had nearer 7% inflation in that time this seems a fall in real terms.

Anyone else have views on this??

My punting has gone down in price both allowing for inflation and actually. I dont go to Agencies though, far too expensive for my liking in London, its with Indies that what i pay has never been better VFM including very extensive services being on offer.

If my salary had gone up by 7% over the passed two years then yes, I would consider it a drop.

It's unlikely to go up if you don't know the difference between past and passed.

I've seen two EE girls in the past month at £80/hour who were both excellent. Nice flat, friendly attitudes, excellent service and quite brilliant DFK.

When I started punting 5 years ago, that sort of service at that sort of price was unheard of.

Depressed, Lydia? Well, here's a little joke for you. :D

The boss had to fire somebody, and he narrowed it down to one of two people: Mary or Jack...

It was an impossible decision because they were both decent workers.

Rather than flip a coin, he decided he would fire the first one who used the water cooler the next morning.

Mary came in the next morning with a horrible hangover after partying all night.

She went to the cooler to take an aspirin.

The boss approached her and said, "Mary, I've never done this before, but I either have to lay you or Jack off."

"Could you jack off?" she said. "I feel like shit this morning"

Without entering this debate and just looking at the economics, you cannot look at inflation in isolation to just one sector.

I think you have to frame the debate within what margins a business has also.

So in a situation of stagflation (high inflation, low or even negative growth and high and rising unemployment) you have to consider living standards are squeezed and discretionary spend has to fall.

So while escorting prices remain static and yes you can argue falling in real terms, 1 - I believe that industry has the capacity within it's margins to survive and 2 - Some (many) professions are seeing a sharper fall in real terms pay, when you look at new pension settlements, older retirement, pay freezes and cuts as well as job losses.

The sex industry, at parlour level in Edinburgh and prob most towns, operates as a cartel, very little price difference. Some independants will offer arrangements, that are vfm, but only if you visit them a few times. As visiting wgs becomes more popular, and more girls enter the bus, prices will drift down, or remain static. They are still way too high. The way the price of porn has dropped , to the point that its usually free, indicates how sex work is actually going. At the moment the girls are competing with service levels, eventually competition will be at price level. I suspect there are posters on this forum, who are paying very little indeed, but are keeeping stum.

In my area I am seeing a greater spread of prices appearing. The established local ladies with good reputations seem to be holding their prices, but new ladies, whether local or visiting EE seem to be advertising prices around 30-40% lower.

Established ladies without good reputations or feedback seem to cutting prices or offering discounts.

Market forces at work.......

I wouldn't have thought it's a cartel as such, more likely to be what the market will stand in terms of price and competition between establishments. Bear in mind the parlour might take up to 50% of what the punter pays so prices have to be reasonably high to make it worthwhile for the girls.

There is no avoiding market forces, I'm afraid. Many customers have smaller punting funds and increased costs leading to them having fewer punts or hunting for cheaper options. Like everyone else, WGs also have increased costs and therefore need to maintain or increase prices. At the same time new WGs appear on the scene and even though they may be inferior or inexperienced they attract a portion of the available punting funds that are out there.

I understand why existing WGs say "my prices will not budge" - to hint otherwise or accept offers leads to them constantly having to haggle. WGs who have all the bookings they need don't need to worry unless they see the sales pipeline dropping markedly, for example no longer having to turn people down due to a full order book. Savvy WGs who are suffering from a lack of bookings at their current prices will pre-empt this with specific offers or using reverse bookings to effectively accept lower pricing, but not affect the headline charge rates. WGs who have a lack of bookings but *really* will not reduce prices in any way will have fewer bookings. That's their decision. Some will decide it's not worth carrying on in the business for a reduced income level and will leave, thereby reducing supply and eventually prices will rise again.

For what it's worth, I think the sex industry seems to be more immune to these market forces that other businesses, simply due to the surreptitious nature of the transactions. Over a long period prices have come down (allowing for inflation) and that's because the internet has allowed the market to grow and become a more regular activity for more suppliers and customers. In marketing speak it's commoditisation.

My opinion is that the worst in the economy is yet to come. The cuts in this country in public sector jobs have been announced but have hardly started to take effect yet. It was hoped that the private sector would grow to take up the slack but it just isn't happening. When the cuts bite we're all in trouble. And if the Euro crashes and burns it will set Europe's economy back 5 to 10 years and will hurt the UK very badly too.

Sorry everyone. Have a great celebration weekend :( .

I just wanted to make two further points.

On the specific point marky31 makes, he doesn't consider business margins in the paragraph he details on market forces. Of course every person is subject to high food, energy costs etc, however, the real issue is can the product or service you sell be more competitive in an economic downturn? That is before passing on increased costs to a consumer during a recession, can what you are offering be streamlined or more competitive or namely can you own margins be sufficient enough to support lower costings, that is they were much higher in the "economic good times".

I'd also remove an element of people from my analysis. While I think what I say is relevant for the majority of people, let us not forget, rightly or wrongly, the upper earners in society are probably not experiencing a downturn at all, perhaps due to mobility of capital, etc. I also feel there are a niche of escorts, defined by differing factors, who could sustain or increase prices, but both are minority groups.

This is certainly exactly what is occuring in my punting area and that of punters i know. In fact a few established SPs with good reputations like HOD SK are putting prices up, still making them very competitive for an Establishment in London though. This free market benefits punters greatly of course, long may it continue.

I think London can almost be considered a seperate market from the rest of the UK and certainly most financial data (average wage, house prices, foreign investment etc) would support that.

It is an interesting concept to consider whether an escort would use higher pricing on a london tour, for example, to supplement lower pricing elsewhere in the UK?

I have punted with a number of WGs on tour in my area which covers Herts as well up to around Baldock north and some did charge a higher rate than they did on in their own area and some didnt. If good and i fancied them enough i have paid the rate they advertised, its been a good move so far as i havent had a bad punt with such WGs yet.

I haven't noticed any reduction in prices in my neck of the woods. If I had to guess I would say they have increased by 10 -15% during the past two years or so.

Yes, it's always margin that matters, but in a service industry like this most costs are fixed. Girls working from hotels are an exception - they have a cost only on days they are working (but even then it is a fixed daily cost no matter how many punters are entertained). Other than condoms, lube and wipes a truly independent WG operating from her own premises has no major cost for a single particular service. So one extra punter is almost all margin. It is up to the WG in question how much she wants to earn for entertaining that one extra punter. If she can get more money by waiting for another punter in that hour or whatever then selling herself short would be hurting her business. If she would otherwise be sitting idle then any income for that hour may be better than nothing. But WGs are working and earning their money and can of course decide a particular price level is simply too low for them to consider.

Surely that's quite different - in the same way that digital music can be copied at zero cost, whereas the experience of live music cannot, actual sex work cannot be digitally replicated.
