I have seen on some SP sites that they charge 10% extra for taking a card, cash is king in punting. I certainly wouldnt trust a total stranger in an unregulated industry with my card details nowadays.

Assuming that you are a New Zealander, and an unmarried orphan New Zealander at that, go ahead and use your flexible friend. Indeed, if you'd be kind enough, please post the card details here, so the rest of us can use them!

For me, however, the idea of leaving my foot-prints right into a brothel for anyone to see is a no-brainer. In any case, with due respect to the straight parlour operators, there is a substantial sector of the sex industry which one should be very careful of, and certainly not provide the key to my reputation and bank balance.

This isn't a defence but I have been reliably informed that bank charges on card transactions, are quite a bit higher for those who say they are in the 'adult services' sector. Not quite sure on the exact figures, but I think they do start to approach the 10% mark, although the people who told me they do accept cards said that chargebacks were common, so they didn't encourage them at all.

Not known a parlour to accept cards, but most definitely agencies...

Not used my cards for a while and I find a wallet full of cash always does the trick....in the good old days I had even wrote cheques...

I think that one justification for the 10% charge is that many "adult operations" that accept cards do not have accounts themselves with card companies, but use a middleman, who will need to add his own profit margin to the bank's already greedy commission.

Sandy's Superstars in Manchester, often cited as the best and perhaps one of the very busiest parlours in the country, have accepted cards for several years and I think the system is well used.

Just extra info, not an invitation to throw caution to the wind.

indeed. you shove em in a bank machine and get cash.

but should you be punting if u need to get the money on a credit card?

Wise cautionary words there. I remember one young punter got himself in a pickle with debt due to punting not so long ago and it caused the poor guy no end of problems.

Really thanks, even less reason to use a card then in my view, the middleman is another possible weak link who i wouldnt know.

I've heard of 'credit card swipes' during sensual massage, but just how do you chip & PIN???:D

There's always a pre- paid credit card, I keep one for buying things online if I'm not sure that I trust the seller. As I have to add funds to it in advance, it will only ever be able to be charged up to the amount I've added to it, after which it gets declined.

Shouldn't be too hard to get one set up in a different name either, as I don't remember there being any checking when I got mine.

Using a card could open a can of worms!

With punting being so addictive, it would not surprise me to hear that punters can secure a bank loan running into thousands just for punting.

If the Parlour has a Chip and Pin terminal onsite then they will never have access to the cardholder's details as your card details and your personal pin number will be fully encrypted by the POS terminal and captured only by the bank at the other end who is doing their processing so it is a secure CardHolderPresent transaction.

It's correct that Adult Services attract a higher processing rate from the banks but also true that a lot of the payment processors out there will add an excessive margin for their own benefit. Realistically, a Chip and Pin transaction for Escorts, Massage Parlours etc should cost them no more than 5-6% - but remember that they are able to add on whatever percentage they like to the sales value.

As regards leaving a "footprint", a reputable payment processor will ensure that the details appearing on your card statement would never relate to the actual service paid for.

Hope this helps

Vince

No chance.

1. Chip and PIN isn't as secure the payment industry make out, however since its introduction they are a lot less likely to admit liability. Look up "card skimming 2011" on Google. If it happens to you, are you really going to get into a dispute with your bank over a transaction in a brothel?

2. Payments to massage parlours may not show up on your bank statement, but they are certainly clear to your bank, and stored as part of your banking record. Both Mastercard & Visa assign every merchant with a Merchant Category Code, which appears in the transaction log. Massage parlours are 7297, escort services are 7273.

Stick to cash. And don't get it from the ATM in the parlour either.

Interesting post. I have never seen an ATM in a Parlour, its a brothel so illegal so why would a company place one in premises that could get closed down at any moment forever possibly. Good advice though, stick to cash.

The point for me is punting is not regulated so unlike me paying for an item at say Tesco by card where i know i can dispute it through both them and if necessary a regulator in punting that doesnt exist. Also in punting some scumbags run some Establishments, i have met a number unfortunately and these people are blatant liars and totally dishonest. I wouldnt risk using my card within punting because of these reasons, plus cash is king and what i prefer to use.
