How Real Is The Risk?

13 posts in this topic

Of course nobody on this site will admit to having had an STI.

I wonder how real is the risk; I've got a suspicion that we're all being conned.

When AIDS first bombarded the headlines we were told that this would decimate the heterosexual as well as the homosexual population; of course this hasn't happened. And I wonder how much of that propaganda is responsible for our thoughts and behaviour now?

The level of activity indicated on this and other sites would surely result in epidemic levels of infection if we are to believe the hype about the risks involved.

My favourite girl and I get checked regularly and never indulge in unsafe practices with anyone else. Neither of us has ever had an STI. Each time we meet she will say at some point "If only there were no STI's!"; we would love to have unprotected sex together, but dare not.

Sometimes I think our thoughts and actions are too strongly influenced by adverse publicity, often without foundation, whereas common sense seems to have been abandoned.

If you check some other threads I think you'll find at least one member owning up to bareback and some unpleasant consequences.

I think that the risk of STDs is probably somewhat overstated, but I agree with the decision of various health organisations to stress it at all times. Why? Because if all did relax and start slacking over our sexual health, then the situation would quickly and easily become very dangerous.

As for board members having STIs -- who knows? I imagine the demographic here are those who use condoms for higher-risk activities, since the board does not allow discussion of bareback providers in any positive light. So it may be that very few pick up anything, and when they do it's likely to be something curable like chlamydia or gonorrhoea (still curable, even if it's getting harder to cure.) These two are incredibly infectious and can find their way around condoms fairly easily through cross-contamination if there is, for example, hand-to-genital contact followed by hand-to-condom contact.

The nurse at my GUM clinic tells me that new cases of throat and vaginal chlamydia and gonorrhoea are relatively common among WGs (more so for throat), but that they don't often see new cases of HIV, hepatitis or syphilis.

Fucking people you dont know or hardly know is obviously to me a potentially risky business. What the actual risk is is a different matter, i dont know which is why i dont risk doing BB and punt on a risk reward basis, OWO being a risk worth taking to me.

AIDS certainly and definitely influenced my thinking and my punting started around the time of the first big AIDS TV campaign.

Its a very real risk. Especially for people who have sex with huge amounts of strangers!

Just a couple of little teensy weensy questions.....

This favourite girl of yours, do you have BB sex with her? Your post implied that you did but then you said that you wanted to but dared not....

If so, do you pay extra for this?

And in the words of the great Columbo, 'Just one more thing sir'

You say that you both get tested regularly and that you both never indulge in unsafe sexual practices with anyone else. How do you KNOW that she never does? For all you know she might say exactly the same thing to 20 different blokes a day, it's all very good trusting someone but this is trusting them with your very life.

Come on people, is it honestly that much trouble for you to wear a condom?

I'm not a prolific punter by any means, so this is just my observation, if you were to catch an STI from a WG who doesn't offer BB, I think that you would be very unlucky to catch anything. With the majority of WG's offering OWO, they are the ones on the "front line" and must be more aware than anyone on how risky catching an STI is.

Maybe this is a rather niave approach, it's just my take on it.

When I visit the gum clinic I usually chat to the nurses.

Couple of them do tell me about rises in certain STIs or certain cases that have popped up at the time and whats going on "behind the scenes" as it were. Obviously not naming names, etc. Patient confidentiallity, etc...

Luckily Ive never caught anything in 10 years of punting but have heard stories and they know Im a punter who wants to be risk free so they do let me know what the current local issues are.....

How do you know she gets regular checks, unless you and she live together 24/7?

Why do you get regular checks, unless you are indulging in unsafe sexual practices?

How do you know she never gives any other bloke BB?

You are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think you are safe from any STD.

If I were you I would find another lady on whom to bestow my favours, and hard earned cash.

In what ways do you modify your behaviour when presented with this information?

I go to the GUM quartely for piece of mind myself. I dont do BB but do accept OWO and do RO among other things so i see it as necessary to go. As i posted he cant know what she could be getting up to.

First time I ever went BB with a WG I caught Chlamidia, although it may not be life threatening, it does feel like you are pissing shards of broken glass every time you take a piss for atleast 2 weeks, it takes a week for the antibiotics to work

Complacent as I was... "Meh, shes 20, new to escorting and an absolute stunner...what could go wrong?"

Said girl has removed her pics and phone number from the other site now...I wonder if she has caught something more serious? I sincerely hope not but BB is a game of russian roulette.
