Phone Scam

Anyone come across this scam on "the other site"?

Escort gives number to make booking, ring number and just get ringing tone, doesn't get picked up or go to voicemail. Give up and out of curiosity check balance on my PAYG phone and that call cost me £1.60! I didn't think the call could be charged for if you only got the ringing tone.

The number started 07030-300

not sure but the rules are different for 070 numbers, I'd never call that number anyway, been stung by it many years ago, wouldn't bother with an escort who listed such number ...just screams scam

Numbers starting 070 are or were personal numbers and cost at least 47p a minute to ring from my mobile, they are outside my inclusive minutes package just like 0870, 0845, 0844 and 0901 numbers are. Some Agencies use 070 numbers, i wouldnt ever ring them myself, no idea how they charge you.

makes you wonder ...is she at all keen on being contacted quickly and easily in the hope of getting a booking or is she more interested in phone fees ...same thinking for profiles with no free pics, 0 feedback and large private galleries???

gotta ask what her priority is?

That I believe is a true premium rate number, which must have it's costs displayed wherever you see the number. If not you can report the user for breach of terms of use.

The Sport newspaper is currently imposing 070 numbers on all girls who advertise with them, and it's the paper who gets the revenue - the advertisers get nothing but a couple of complaints when guys realise how much it costs to phone them.

The ringing tone was probably a recording. You can't be charged for simply ringing someone, they must have answered. Report the number to ofcom, as it's slightly illegal to do that obviously.

070 numbers associated with a WG are probably always a scam

There was a spate of cards in newsagents oferring free massages. The number to call started with 070. It was a scam

I've seen it reported somewhere else that with an 070 number you are charged from the moment the phone starts ringing. If so must be something to do with the redirect (which is all an 070 number does, it is attached to a standard phone number).

Maxes Angels had maybe still does have a number starting 070 but also has an alternative regular mobile number and a few other Agencies i have looked at have 070 numbers as well so be aware everyone. Max Angel said he had one just so he could get calls diverted and made nothing from the calls.

It depends on the agreement between the number provider and the user. Sometimes the revenue goes to the provider, sometimes it goes to the person having it directed to their phone. Most people assume the person advertising with that number is profiting, but very often (just as in the Sport adverts) it's the 3rd party provider as well as the mobile companies making the money.

Suppliers of 070 numbers try to convince you they are personal numbers that follow you. It's all bollocks as with digital you can programme diverts in most phones at a fraction of the cost.

These nubers are only there to make money for the phone service provider and the holder of that number. Avoid like the plague.

Thanks. I avoid them on principle after being charged 47p once for a 1 minute call. I use saynoto0870.com to find a regular number or go elsewhere. Sayno has saved me thousands over the years ringing Banks, Credit Card companies and many others. :)

These days many landlines include 0870/0845 in their call plans, however some companies have moved to 0844/0871 numbers to evade this.

Indeed, others have gone to 03 numbers which are included in my mobile package whereas 08 anything isnt even freephone 0800 or 0808 except for a small number of calls to companies like Shelter and Charities which my phone provider has reached an agreement to be free from my mobile. The charging of freephone numbers is scandalous to my mind, i read this is being investigated at present.
