I hope they go after her assets as well.

indeed, there are many instances of poca being used against brothel owners, this woman exploited those who wanted to be sex workers

Depends whether or not it's on the list of 'lifestyle offences' and fits this criteria;

http://www.accountin...n-confiscation/

Very many thanks for the link - the guy is a forensic accountant, touting for business (on which I'm quite sure he pays full tax) but, hey, accountants are a necessary evil. I followed your link to this one http://www.accountingevidence.com/blog/2011/02/calamitous-consequence-of-a-failure-to-notify-hmrc/ which answers many of the doubts expressed in the WG/POCA thread.

POCA really is an evil statute which needs a thorough overhaul, but I haven't heard a dicky bird about that from any politician.

It's good that they got her, but the sentence should be longer. I mean less than 4 years, when she lived in luxury since 2007 and conned maybe even 7000 people. Not to mention that she will will probably be out earlier. I'm going to say that she still "won".

Blooming heck, that bloke basically was thought to have evaded tax by not declaring best part of £4k, but was then assumed to have obtained everything else he held in assets criminally but without it being proven. So they lifted £700 000 from him. Wow serious stuff.

She'll probably be eligible for parole in just under 2 years.

That's correct, what usually happens is POCA takes every penny, then HMRC send a bill for the tax on that every penny(even though it's been confiscated) which makes it a bit difficult to then pay the bill power or no power. Not sure of the logic on that one, I suppose they just hold the debt for ever after.

Indeed, i certainly think the money she has conned should be recovered or as much as possible so she doesnt financially benefit once released, from her ill gotten gains, and it given back to her victims would be good, thats what i see as justice to her victims in addition to being sent to prison. This is where the seizing of assets is right and just in my opinion. If in addition she didnt pay any due tax then she should be done for that as well to my mind. Scum like her deserve all they get legally. :)

According to it, there is no any escape from POCA, for her. Still, so difficult to believe she managed to con so many people, just to taking money to be on the books of the non existent agency. I could understand maybe dozen or so people per year will fell for it (mainly male escorts), but not the amount declared in the media.

Still: this is the most attractive police mug shot, I've ever seen: with fake eyelashes, and rather overdone blusher present.

i've read how a con works, escort enquires about agency, when told cost, says no thanks, agency phones later to say client waiting wants overnighter & will pay well, but escort must register with fee, escort pays fee and told to wait for instructions of meeting, later that night agency phones to say- sorry customer has cancelled but we'll get other clients for you

LOL, I think 99,9% of population knows how this con works, hence I said that I am surprised that so many idiots people (probabably mainly aspiring male escorts) fell for it.

About 20 months she'll serve. Which, for £1.9M enjoyed over the last five years, ain't too bad a penance. How much the poca-men will recover is anybody's guess.
