What is the longest continuously running sauna in London? Some of the old time traditional places include...

Crouch End Sauna

Tottenham Sauna

Aqua Sauna - although this shut down for about a year before reopening

Dreams Sauna Walthamstow

New Experience Camden

Manor Park Sauna

Wembley Sauna

But I am not sure which is the long-running?

According to their website....

"the Manor Park Sauna was the first ever sauna to open in London and has been in its same location for over 40 years."

OMEGA sauna, Kentish Town ;):)

Omega opened after the others I listed, but has been around for quite a while. There was originally a sauna further down Kentish Town Road which is now the site of Rios Health Spa.

That must be the overall winner then. Amazing that such a fucking shit hole has lasted so long.

So it seems that there have been saunas in London for 40 years. I wonder who was the first person to dream up the idea of offering a visit to a sauna as a cover for sex with girls in white uniforms?

Green Lanes Sauna opened 1976, I know that because I worked there from the first day until it closed because of the proposed road widening scheme. It is now under new management. Previous to working there I worked in a place in the Seven Sisters Road, which had been there for quite a few years ( I have forgotten the name of it) but I believe it to have been one of the first saunas, certainly in North London, although I believe there were a few saunas in Soho. However, in those days we only offered H.E. and we had to have a recognised diploma before we were able to work.

I remember one on Judd Street, in the Kings X area, that must have opened at least 30 years ago.

Sorry, that obviously should have read EAST Finchley.!! And the sauna in Judd Street belonged to the same poeple who owned the one in Seven Sisters Road, where I worked, and it opened much later on.

Blimey I'm 10 years out. Was convinced that it was there when I was a nipper which would put in firmly in the mid-sixties. Shows how the memory can play tricks on you.

Hi Ruth,

You know me, but not from this board. I have had a few massages from you and the lovely ladies at your place.

I hope you are well and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Oh by the way, if you haven't clicked yet, I am Nick - hope you remember me! xx

I saw a sign saying "Sauna" in a recent episode of a Hercule Poirot mystery on TV. The scene was supposed to be in London and very definitely set in the 1930's

Yes but that is a fictional drama not a documentary.
