Don't use sat nav either. These things have a memory even if you think you have cleared them out.

I use bing maps to do my route planning at home and then destroy the evidence on the way home.

That mist have made little one's heart flutter! :P

On my TomTom it's only possible to clear the entire history list rather than individual destinations. Not good when the other half wants to return to a previous destination and the whole lot has gone.

I get near enough without SatNav then use Waze or NavFree on my iPhone to guide me in if I need it.

Another biggie is keep your punting phone on silent if you expect to speak to the OH en route to a punt.

Alternatively run your sat nav on silent, and then you can talk on he phone.

SAT NAV:

Difficult NOT to use it. Agree that difficult to clear a single route, as entire list has to be deleted. Once been to any

location where you don't want your OH to see it, select numerous destinations form your favourites, so that the

current one gets buried beneath the more recognisable ones.

Also, put the SAT NAV on low volume, right up until close to your destination. If I am going to a new location in

a familiar town, carry out a bit of research as to which area of the town the destination is in. That way, you don't

always have to switch the SatNav on until you get close to your destination.

Drawback: going through unfamiliar Speed cameras.

Punting Phone.... usually on vibrate in my pocket, so if it did ring whilst I was on the normal phone, no one could

hear the ring tone.

One other point to watch out for if you have some of the smartphones which Automatically give your location....

switch that function off when you are somewhere where you don't want all your contacts to find out!!

wish wives' would chill out on the cia investigations, we all know relationships turn into having your best friend around. They then dont want to fool around as much with their guy, fair enough but wives' could have the best of all worlds if they wouldn't check up in their guys all the time regards the cheating thing, if they aren't having sex with him as much. Turn a blind eye let it go your guy will be happy you will be happy bec that pressure is off and he isn't going to leave you for anther chic bec most chic's don't come as chilled out as this. I need to run seminars for wives.

Yeah that's a right pain in the arse - same on my Garmin. I miss the factory built-in satnavs I have had in previous cars, which did allow you to delete individual destinations.

One backup excuse I have (not had to put it into action yet) would be that I lent the satnav to a colleague as he was going to pick up something he had bought on eBay.

I have the Tom Tom app on my iPhone and the wife uses the standalone Tom Tom itself so I don't have any pressure to erase my history.

i use google maps on android fone. but i have History Eraser too. that clears down favouries from the contacts, browsing history and google maps search history etc. Always run that after a punt to clear it down.

Maybe SatNavs/Phones in future will have a "Punting Mode"?

Did crack me up when Internet Browsers started introducing "Private Browsing" - they should of just called it Porn Mode

i use igo8 on a hacked Navigo satnav which also runs tomtom and miomaps, it boots up default into tomtom for the missus but i can reboot it and go punting with igo8 but in any case I selectively delete individual history items on igo8 so suits my punting perfectly.

oh and I never answer the phone enroute puntville - NEVER, I can claim not hearing it in a noisy place or battery dead easier than a random station announcer/tannoy/sat nav giving away my actual location, phone goes on airplane mode so it goes straight to voice mail

I dont use Sat Nav often as i know most of my punting area but my non punting phone is off from when i get to the WGs. The secret in my experience is never get complacant and hopefully you will never get caught out, i have not yet been in 30 years of punting, making not getting caught out a top priority.

Completely forgot about the tannoys..... avoid talking on your normal phone when at Railway Stations and Airports, as any unexpected announcements can easily compromise your position, and explanations may not come that easily as to what you were doing at a Railway Station or an Airport!!

You don't tell us how you got away with it - which is the most important thing for the rest of us. Come on, some of us may find it useful!

Why is that? So much of the new technology seems designed to be punter-friendly - clearing numbers from calls received on your mobile, for example. Surely there must have been somebody who had punted on the design team - why didn't they think of it?

Related query: why do all the email providers allow you to mark read posts as unread: what reason could one have for doing that apart from snooping on your partner's mail?

Mrs Bloom would then want me to go and make a scene with whoever had sold it to us.

They do have other uses though. The Telegraph has just introduced a partial paywall to its site - 20 stories per month and then you have to pay. But if you go onto private browsing they don't pick it up and you can continue to have unlimited access.

Buses too. All those bloody announcements about what the next stop will be! (Sorry to lower the tone, but I'm not an international businessman...)
