24 posts in this topic

What is the ratio for streetwalker:escort:brothel/sauna worker?

Are there any reasonably accurate sources for this?

Its an interesting question but one that over laps when you come to the agency/brothel/indie section as so many women do both, or all three.

Still begging the response - so what?

Or 4?

Not that romeo agrees that it is an interesting question.

I very much doubt it.

One could almost begin to see a 'class' system at work with the industry. ie well educated and connected operating as courtesans, the middles classes operating as the self employed independents, the labour force busy in the sweatshops, parlours and brothels; with the unwashed working the streets.

THere was a fair bit on implied shagging or offers on Selfridge last night: was it really like that?

Forgot to add that on the basis of a class parallel, the proportions of wg would probably correlate to standards of living. With the proportion of wg to the specific class of population probably about equal,

Where are the wg studying maths, stats and computing this morning?  probably on a horizontal sabbatical?

I've met a good few well educated escorts, some with degrees and others who were studying. Escorts come from all types of backgrounds.

This should keep you busy for a while   ;)  Can't vouch for it mind.

http://tampep.eu/documents/ANNEX%204%20National%20Reports.pdf

Latest figures are for 2008, so it may be dated, but is still an interesting read.

Among the statistics which struck me are

No SP's worked in "parks/forests"

1% SP's worked on "highways outside towns/cities"

80% of UK citizen SP's have control of their earnings while only 60% of foreign ones.

On the other hand only 60% of UK SP's keep their earnings while 80% of foreign ones do.

I'm not sure what to make of the last two figures.

Very good!

One set could be a subset of another set though?

Blimey that's alot of stats and trust UK to be right at the end - i lost the will to get that far.

And in any case I as scrolling down to say no it is not possible to give accurate stats but that won't stop people producing them and us thinking we are better informed/confirmed/surprised.

Perhaps slightly but not all the time.

Personally I had a great private education and studied at university (although I am from a working class family).

However I have worked for agencies that charged £500ph for my time and brothels where there were waiting rooms. I also know a few street workers from out reach work that are so highly educated and either choose to work the streets or just fell on hard time.

Agreed. And also just because you "come" from a certain type of background doesn't mean you cannot change your future both negatively and positively.

You don't need to scroll through the whole thing. Just click in the index on the section you wish to read. Took me less than 30 seconds to find the data I quoted.

And in answer to Romeo: it's interesting because you can argue that streetwalkers are a public nuisance, but brothels and agency girls and independents are not.  Especially with regard to all the legislative proposals, it's interesting because the Rhoda Grants and Julie Bindels of this world are saying that sex workers are not in control of their fate, Belle de Jour is a one-off and unrepresentative, etc.... this is all about who can REALLY be considered representative of sex workers.

Whats kind of ironic is that the preposed legislation is being touted as a way to protect women and yet they blocked the proposal for min brothels i believe they called them. That would have been either two women working at a premise or two and a maid/receptionist which would have made things a whole lot safer
