There is a story on the front page of the Essex Chronicle this week about brothels in Chelmsford. Tops is mentioned as is Punternet and apparently the police are now going to investigate Tops. Apart from this there is the usual lazy journalism about the number of trafficked women which paxman exposed as a myth on Newsnight recently.

Stories of this type always piss me off. I Read the article, and it wasn't long before we had the 'must protect the kids' bleat. Protect from what? They're not involved, and have absolutley no idea what's going on. Indeed, one 'concerned' parent even adimiited he didn't know 'anything like this was happeneing' in his neighbourhood, and it must be stopped 'cos of the children. Well, if didn't sus what was going on, I'm sure his kids didn't either, so they're not being 'harmed', are they. When I was kid myself, one of the other kids in the street told us he had lots of 'uncles' visiting his mum!!! We thought she was great, 'cos she always gave us lots of sweets and pop!!! Heart of gold she had.

CHELMSFORD: Seedy suburban brothels exposed

Thursday, November 05, 2009,

A CHRONICLE investigation into the extent of the sex trade in Chelmsford has uncovered a brothel on the doorstep of police headquarters.

A 10-minute search of the internet revealed the location of the seedy enterprise, and after a quick phone call, our reporter visited and was offered sex with a choice of girls.

One website offers nearly 70 customer "reviews" of women offering themselves for sex in the town - despite police insisting their were no brothels in the town.

Residents of Cavendish Gardens were horrified when we put our discoveries to them.

One, who did not wish to be named for fear of reprisals, said: "I am shocked and totally disgusted."

Local Papers - don't you just love their need to provide a sensational headline!

Me thinks that if the local residents had to be informed about a brothel on their doorsteps, then its presence can't have been having much effect on them.

Johnny.

It's ok, a paper locaish to me has just about got the news re HH.

There is one result - increased traffic via this site plus many googling escorts in the area.

The Echo / Standard group stopped taking Escort/Massage ads ages ago, I wonder if the Chronicle accepts such ads.

I live a very short distance away from the establishment in Cavendish Gardens.

As is described from the residents comments, no one knew and the girls were earning a living so what's the harm?

People have needs, people need to earn, people need to live in a safe environment - it seems like all boxes were ticked in Cavendish Gardens so what was the point of the article from the Chronicle?

Have they found girls who are forced? Have they found illegal imegrants?

Not that I am aware of - they have found girls who need to earn a living and make their own decisions.

As was said, the Essex Police HQ is round the corner and it had been tolerated for some time. In decreasing income form advertisments, no pain to the local community, with girls supporting their families and tolerance from the local Police one wonders what the Chronicle hopes to achieve?

I hope the recorder can find more interesting news at some point.

I must admit, it's all pretty sad. But I suppose it beats having to report on a local car boot sale or doing tea lad duties.
