Iphone 5 Vs Galaxy S4

Due an upgrade soon, and I really am torn between these 2 phones.

Would appreciate any opinions from iPhone users who have switched to the S4, or vice versa and if so do you think you did the right thing ?

Depends what you looking for.

You can not exactly call them "phones", they are a mini computers now.

Of course the craftanship of Iphone is undeniably solid and aesthetically pleasing. Screen should be larger. The processor is mega fast, and if your fan of of various apps, there are much more then on Android platform (saying that, most popular apps available on the both platforms). Iphone  does not depreciate much in value, so you always can re-sell it after a year or so with not much loss from the original price. (I don't think it will last for long, though).

However, there is no option to expand the storage with micro sd card either. Of course you can store it on the Cloud, but then to access it, you need to have a some kind of net connection. Not ideal, when there is no WIFI available, or restricted 3g plan.

IOS still does not allow you to access flash sites, and HTML5 does not always render perfectly. Free music download through websites are restricted also, unlike on Android.

Quality of the camera pictures/videos about the same level as on S4.

S4 still quite plasticy, but its not about the design, its more about the "brain" of it.  Certainly software which are inbuilt in S3/S4 hog a lot the space on it. (much more then on Iphone, if you compare  both 16GB versions)

However Android much more customisable then IOS.  You also can expand the space, with micro SD. You can not put apps on it, but you can put all your music, docs, pictures, videos, etc on it. The quality of the screen are about equal to Iphone. Though its larger, and you need as large screen as comfortably possible, if you also consider to use it as a sat nav, erader, music player, game console, reasonable quality camera, watch an odd porn movie on it, and so on.(without carrying an additional device). If you are not planning to do all above, then you not need it. lol.

Anyway: you should post this question on some specially dedicated forums, or rather to read them first, when people share, or going into never ending fight, which are better better S3/S4, or Iphone5. Then you get fans of HTC One X, Xperia Z... and Nokia 925 fans whistling in the background, and everybody accusing each other that they are like a herds of lambs. lol

Apple and Android fanboys long gone now. Bring back the Blackberry from the oblivion, and a yuppies from the 80 ies among with it! :-). (BTW: do have a look on BB Z10, though its a different topic)

With the android phones you can also change the battery, handy, as all these phones crunch through the battery, with the iPhone you have to have access to a charger!

Ahem, not quite true.  I bought a S4 as I discovered that HTC one and Sony Experia Z were aping the iphone and not having a micro SD slot or a removable battery.  Recent reviews place the S4 as almost twice the speed of an iphone 5 in rendering web pages.

I am going to take Galahads advice and wait for the 5s/6 rumoured to be released with ios7 in Sept/Oct.

I had a play around with the S4 and it just seems cheap and tacky, with a crappy plastic back and the operating system is inferior to ios which is so quick and easy to use.

If you have other Apple gadgets such as the iPad, iPod touch, MacBook, iMac, etc. then an iPhone is the right choice. This is because all your gadgets can be synched together through iCloud. I find it useful to have my messages, notes, reminders, etc. all working in tandem with all my Apple gadgets.

If you're in the Apple ecosystem, then iPhone.

If you prefer Android, buy a stock Nexus 4 (wireless charging/NFC/stock Android/frequent over the air updates) and get a SIM-only plan.

I have used both phones and would have to say the S4 is better.

Iphone seems to have come to a bit of a stand still in terms of development and the Samsung galaxy range just gets better and better!

And with the iPhone if you have an old docking station like my Bose well it doesn't friggin work does it! So you have to buy a new car charger, speakers, docking station etc.

Don't get me wrong I've always had an iphone from day one and loved them all, but changing the connector (or what ever the technical term is) has really peed me off!

What Charlotte said.  With the iPhone 5 the docking connectors have to be changed in the car and the standalone speaker systems indoors, the whole damn shooting match.  Which is why I still have the 4S.  The home button is the only thing that ever needs changing, unless you break the screen or get water damage.

Thanks for that, I bought something similar at my local indie phone shoe. It's cheap made in China and really low quality and once you have it on its a bugger to get off. I got mine for my phone charger.

That is the thing with these after market ones, they are cheap and the quality varies. Unless you buy the Apple ones you take pot luck.

I can't vouch for that one, but I did order these for my iPad and they are work perfectly, easy to fit and remove.
