I've lost count of the number of times I've received this type of email, and I was aware of the existence of so called 'nigerian scams' targeting businesses even before that. A hotel in the lakes was scammed this way not too long go.

My contribution: http://www.419eater.com/

Not big, not clever, but occasionally amusing (if somewhat morally suspect- it's probably not the scammers who get tattooed for example)

this whole thing needs to be reviewed every now and again

Apparently there are whole rooms full of people in far away lands sending out scam emails all day, just hoping to catch the unwary.

I was the object of an attempted scam on eBay as the second highest bidder. I was told the highest bidder did not complete the purchase, and the item was offered to me as second highest. Just send the money to this account whose details are on this Paypal look alike email, and you can guess the rest.

Luckily with some dodgy spelling and punctuation of my home address (yes they had found that out as well), I worked out it could not have been from eBay or Paypal, and reported it to them. Apparently this happens very regularly.

Think at least twice before parting with any financial details, or any form of payment.

If people are stupid enough to fall for these scams, then they deserve all they get.

But I just find it so hard to believe that there enough people to fall for these scams to make the effort worthwhile

I remember some baiters would send random photos of stars lifted from the net, send fake details, keep them guessing.

There is certainly fun to be had if anyone can be bothered. Like you, I did bait one of them once.

As someone said above it's a wonder that there is one person left on the planet who doesn't know about these scams.

Me too.

I was selling an old mobile phone on ebay, was asked to send to (probably) Nigeria and became suspicious, googled a little and found

SCAMBAITERS

who I joined and spent several months baiting scammers. Got a commendation from my fellow members after my first death threat LOL

Had fun for awhile but then found other things to occupy my time.

Could be one reason for my suspicion of Romanian and Hungarian WG's, most mobile phone scammers at the time were from those two countries.

You mean the scammers threatened you with death for baiting them? :D

Humourless buggers!

My mother in law is 87 with Dementia and I caught her giving her bank details and pin number to someone over the phone.

One of my hobbies, and it's a lot cheaper than punting but not as much fun, is baiting scammers.  They really are the scum of the earth and I have wasted the resources of many, both Nigerian fraudsters and Russian 'Vlads' posing as Russian supermodels etc.    I have had a couple of Nigerians arrested at airports and airline offices by givng them false airtickets to come and meet me,  and marking the tickets 'refundable in cash'.  Of course they're not, but these people are stupid and greedy enough to fall for it and a little call to the airline office sets them up for the fall.

A couple of people I know have fallen for these scams and I am happy to do everythinng I can to get vengeance.

Anyone that uses *Lol* to express anything loses my vote!

Seriously, do these scam artists think someone will fall for this,?

Sadly, many do.

It is one of the well known scams, and you would think than no any person left in the universe, who does not know about it.

Unfortunately, only recently some WG posted about it on the "Saafe forum, as she was not aware about it.

Saying that, if anybody got a time to waste, it can be quite a laugh to exchange few emails with them. (even if only to get pictures of the idiot with a fish on the top of his head).

It just amazes me that people fall for such obvious drivel

I stop reading any mail within the first two seconds that reads...................."will you visit me abroad" always fake,  who would do that anyhow, like walking in to the possibility of being eaten half alive somewhere and the rest chucked in the river.

I am quite sure that you would be so tasty that they would gobble you all up, and nothing would be going in the river, so don't worry about that :)
