Urgent advice required

33 posts in this topic

I booked an appointment to see a lady who offers a specialist service three weeks ago, I was really looking forward to seeing her and confirmed the appointment yesterday as requested and I received a reply saying she was looking forward to seeing me, all good stuff.

The appointment is for this evening and I have just received an email saying she has had to switch locations, from a neighbouring town only 10mins drive away to another which is 40mins drive away.

Disappointingly I replied to say there is no way I could make the agreed time, she replies to say that I can be late as she only books one appointment per evening.

Now, whilst I want to see her I don't really want to travel so far, is this unreasonable? Is it reasonable for her to expect me to travel to another town?

I don't want to be considered a time waster.

It's your money and your choice so you can't be considered a time waster under these circumstances if you dont wish, or haven't got a sufficient time slot available to make the appointment as well as an additional half hour travelling each way.

It all really depends on how keen you are to see her as to whether you wish to be inconvenienced by the extra journey time

Late change after 3 weeks - I guess these thing happen. Do you have any background or FRs on this lady? Is it fair to assume that circs beyond her control required this late change? I think you would be quite reasonable in asking to reschedule as it is not as if the location has changed just up the street to another appartment.

you wont be considered a timewaster if you cancel because its her who changed the location.

change of location has never happened to me so I dont know how normal this is but 40mins drive aint that long.

I regularly travel an hr to visit WGs. Depends on how much you want to see her i guess. She says she has only got you booked so there is no pressure about being late. Is she special?

Have you got a back up girl? If not then I would still go......u may even use it to your advantage and bargain for a few "extras"

I don't think she can reasonably regard you as a timewaster, it's her who's switched details, not you. She's asking you to add an extra 80 minutes round trip to your journey. Just politely decline, leave the door open for a future meeting a bit more convenient and look for someone else a bit closer.

As you booked her some 3 weeks ago, and she offers the specialist services that you require, it would seem that she ticks all the boxes for you. If that's the case then whats the problem with another 30 minutes drive.

Sure it's a little annoying, but maybe use it as a tool to get a little extra FOC.

Go the extra mile, if you've done your homework she'll be worth it ...

and she'll remember you as her 'first' in her new accommodation.

You can just say that you have to be back by a certain time so will not be able to allow that extra time the extra travelling will take. Very unlikely she will see you as a timewaster. Though like Tarquin said, why not drive the extra 30 minutes if you can.

And please do not take up thedane's suggestion (haaber ikke at du er dansk med den indstilling!!) to use it to bargain for a few extras.

thanks for the advice, I was a bit pissed off as the arrangement was perfect but on reflection another 30mins drive is not that far and should be worth it, I think I will go through with the appointment.

I was just thinking how unpopular that suggestion was going to make him with some people on here.. in the real world, we have something called give and take..

Mate if you need advice on a simple problem like this there is no hope for you. Why you would feel the need to ask is beyond me. You either want to see her or you dont, I travel further to get my nails done:rolleyes:

sorry, the question was not really about distance but about being considered a time waster for cancelling due to the change of location that is not as convenient for me.

This is not the sort of question I could ask my work colleagues, so hope for and received some good advice for the this forum that helped me reach my decision. I just want to bounce the issue off someone.

I am not an idiot, and your response has really irritates me..

I just wondered if there was a new government inititive I'd not heard about, introducing a Timewasters Register, name & shame, photos on lamposts, that sort of thing.

No, just an issue he wanted to bounce off someone instead of the walls.

He could not ask his work colleagues for fear of being told to shape up, luckily he received some good advice that helped him reach a decision.

Unfortunately the decision he reached took him a week and obviously he missed the much sought after appointment.

All in all he wasted every bodies time including his own. In future he is just going to do it and be damed what others think. His only trouble now is remembering what the hell it was he was going to do or if he had already done it.

No doubt an inspiring post on the decision making process of an irritated inconvenienced punter called ian:D:D

Just for the record I did go through with the appointment and it was fantastic.

Reason "urgent advice" required was because I wanted to make a quick decision to go or not, quick bounce of the board brought me to my senses. It was never meant to be the most intellectually stimulating thread that engaged people in mass debate for weeks.

I didn't want to be considered a time waster because I did want to see the lady at some point even if I had decided not to go yesterday.

I agree an extra 30mins drive is not that far but I had planned my night and it meant I had to change other things.

Anyway thanks for helping me make the right decision.
