Birmingham Tunnel Closures

13 posts in this topic

A heads-up really for those entering Birmingham. Many maybe not aware that the main Tunnels leading up towards to Mailbox, coming off Junction 6 of the M6 are now closed for 6 weeks. Further details can be found http://www.amey.co.uk/brumtunnels.aspx

It maybe wise contacting any escorts/agencies to get some advice on alternative routes (if there professional enough, I am sure they will have got a plan in action).

I know from past meetings, a lot of ladies seem to be based around the Mailbox area, so this could make punts a more stressful start (especially if your late due to traffic problems).

I had sussed this.  Simple answer. use the train.  It'll be chaos today, I reckon.

I used the station at the weekend. Very simple to navigate. Also plenty of rail personnel to help.

Well I must be a twerp then as I have never seen the equivalent of the old main board that showed all trains and their stops

Also I hear every time I go there, fairly local people (I assume).trying to work out which way is best for them to leave. I found myself wandering through the old Pallisades centre and through the ups and downs of the TK maxx store before coming out in the opposite direction to where I hoped to go.

The lack of informative signs (as opposide to 'southside' etc) is baffling as when they part opened it there were people employed to hold signs with hands pointing the way.

I love the new station, its shininess and planted walls but easy to point your self to the right train or right exit - not yet in my experience.

i too find the exit signs at The Station of little use. As a local I want to be directed by street name location not compass point directions. Southside or Eastside mean little to me, please just inform me of the location I am heading in.

Although the concourse may be bright I do think that the platforms are more gloomy and unwelcoming than ever.

Thanks for backing me up. I think the platforms do get to see the sky eventually - at least that's what I thought I heard.

Thanks. I will keep in touch with that forum.

I think as a city it has improved and also that it still has really nice parts you suddenly come across. I was hanging around in Kingstanding last week and there was a lovely big grass playground basically in the middle of the road.

I like st pauls square.  It was better when Pump was there but still an oasis

and Kings Norton Green, with Mollys Cafe.  Nice to go there for the farmers market.

I was in St Pauls Square about a week ago and hanging around in the cafe at the bottom for a while.

Nice but odd cafe and of course nice to have the trees. grass and church there.

I was hoping to see an SP there but it didn't materialise but it seems it must be an expensive place to rent compared to an anonymous flat in one of the big blocks.
