Security Or Stalking?

13 posts in this topic

I think I saw a similar topic some months ago but cannot find it now.

How careful are you with your personal security on the Internet?

Do you "Google" your personal details (both real and aliases you use) on a regular basis?

Do you check on other people?

Do you worry about what you find?

I do and mostly I seem to have escaped detection by the search engines.

However, yesterday, I was given the work number by a lady I'm going to visit.  As I usually do I searched for the number and her email address, on top of using Tineye and Google on her pictures.

I'm not a stalker but I find it useful to see where else she may advertise, what services she offer, any reviews she has on other sites and if her rates vary.

With this particular lady, her number led me to a large number of small ads (for household goods) that had been placed using the number I had been given, some of which also list an address that is in the area she says her incall location is! A different name is listed as well.

So potentially I now know a lot of information about this lady!

So back to some of my first questions;

How careful are you with your personal security on the Internet?

Do you "Google" your personal details on a regular basis?

Both service providers and clients need to take care IMO.

Get your tin hat on CB. A similar post attracted plenty of bollocking of the OP !

Personally can't see anything wrong with what you're doing. As to my own details a google of my PN / aw personas doesn't appear on google but a WG with my phone number (and they would have) could actually find me which is a bit poor security I suppose, especially as I use my real first name in the punting world. Hmmmm makes you wonder

Thanks Frank, but I remember the thread so I'm ready with protection :)

I do find it strange that punters can be castigated for making some simple checks before they commit sometimes large sums of money into a potentially risky environment whereas, some girls what your life history, photos of your face and lots of personal details before they will entertain you the punter.

The overall conclusion, as I saw it, is that when we do this, we are within reason to do it, as you both have maentioned.

However, avoid saying ANYTHING to the WG concerned, else you'll be seen in a different light altogether by them, possibly

have your booking cancelled by her.

Agreed but it concerns me that people (not just WGs, but all people) do not realise how much information trails behind them on the Internet.

Perhaps one of the ladies from here could start a thread on the SAAFE forum?

chorus boy, I totally understand your concerns. And, nobody can stop you from researching. But, I don't understand what the fundamental problem is? Do you not trust your own judgment any more? Maybe there is a certain amount of enlightenment to be found in the huge amount of (mis)information skulking in the cloud.

But, just pretend for a moment the www doesn't exist, and you have found my telephone number in a phone box. You will be forced to telephone me, introduce yourself, and talk to me like a proper human being, in order to figure out if you like the sound of me. Is that so bad? Do you think your instinct will fail to reveal something that screen sucking in the wee hours will shed a light on?

It seems to be unreasonable to lots of guys that we don't like the cyber stalking (also called research), and superficially it probably is. But, to me it feels controlling, mis-trustful, and a bit antisocial.

Makes me feel you're one of those nerds that's sitting in his mum's spare bedroom, hacking into the Pentagon, instead of sitting in the kitchen with his friends, talking and eating Spag Bol with a glass of wine.

chorus boy, be a mensch - please talk to us! It's more enlightening than rootling around binary code. You'll soon figure out who you might have a good time with, and who you won't.

It wasnt the checks he was castigated for,it was more the way he went about it and worded the message,The bit i personally found oddest is it didnt seem like he was actually going to book them anyway

I can see why someone would look up a name or a number online in any situation when you are meeting a stranger. If the means is there then why not use it?

I personally think it's daft for any working girl to use her personal number on advertising if she uses it elsewhere on the internet especially if it leads to all manner of personal details.

It might sound dodgy and nosey, but if putting someones number in Google led you to discover they were part of some scam or were dangerous in some way then it would be a good thing.

Saying this though, there are resources available to escorts to check phone numbers of dodgy clients which I expect many do instead of faffing about with Google and there are plenty of ways for clients to discover if an escort or genuine or not.

Punternet has a search feature for phone numbers

Click to see all reports matching this phone number

If I see an ad anywhere and am thinking of going along I usually google the number to see if it returns anything, maybe a review somewhere.

The list of WGs you'll end up seeing will be very minimal, as NOT all reports are filed on PNet FRs/

Taking precautions is a good thing, though yours seem a little OTT to me, but not stalking.

IMHO, It would be come stalking, when/if continued beyond the decision to visit or not.

And this is why punters have anonymity when Wg's do not.

I don't have a problem with you googling my info, never had, I have nothing to loose in terms of being outed etc, as all my family friends etc know what I do.

But imagine for a moment, That they didn't, and a man with less than honourable intentions, or a gent who feels he didn't get enough for his money and then uses the information he's found for nefarious purposes.

It is a worry, but at the time not everyone is clued up, not everyone realises or knows that you can google your phone number.

You don't know until your told these things, the same way girls don't know about message boards until they are told or they use their brain before.

it's like I said, on another thread, most girls in this industry are transient, and don't really think about it.

I don't think googling the number is stalker behaviour but using any info found would be.
