Do You Think The New Rating System Has Added More Or Less To Threads?

32 posts in this topic

So, after a lil while away I thought I would pop back here, only thing is, I had only locked myself out of my account,an email exchange with Mr G and all was sorted,so I logged in ten minutes ago..to be greeted with an X Factor 1- rating on my profile, and in deep dark red, just to ram home the point many here, ca few, etc not impressed with my comments.

I love this new rating, having gotten over my initial thought of "hmm...is that right a -1...the SWINES...." :P  :P

So guys and dolls, what are your thoughts on this new ratings system, I am curious, when did it start?

So do spill the beans..do you post less now aware you can now not only be judged via comments, but a great big thumbs down or up,I think this thumb up and down malarky is a brilliant move, so good work to whoever decided upon this.

I think it will add a certain je ne saia quoi, adds an entirely new dimension to this site which can only be a positive thing.

Are there any here who prefer to just read but  are not at that stage yet where they can post, but have wanted more involvement, and with this new ratings system, you can still be silent,no comments, but at least sigh or groan or chuckle, shake your head in utter distaste by a comment you have just read, and express this via the ratings system.?

You can tell me, I will keep it a secret;-)have you been rubbing your hands in wild abandonment and glee content in the knowledge, that rather annoying little cheeky posters, like meeee very possibly :D  who just post from their honest view point, and do not seek favor will now feel your internet wrath by way of a big fat thumbs down, okay, maybe a tad intense, but you know what I mean..I hope.

I do have so many questions.

We can not please everyone, we all have differing view points in life, have you been SO offended, to the extent steam  actually fizzed and frothed out of your ears by another users comment/s here that the big thumbs down was the only logical option to prevent you from lobbing your pc/laptop out of a window in sheer outrage.

Has anyone here thumbed down another/s based on not their comments per se  but more based on the perception you have of them based on their posts,if the posts are from a user who is working/escorting/camming/movies/etc have you based your thumbs up and down also based on your perception of this provider?

I know I know, so many questions, aint nobody got time for that!!!

It will be quite ironic if this thread in itself gets the thumb down..I wait in curious anticipation.

So people, do you like the new system of rating, has it made you post more or less, have you thumbed down those you have always deep down disliked for various reasons, etc..please do tell.

SomeKindagirl aka SKAG :D ,in reference to my user name here, nowt else guys dolls, nowt else! )

All comments are welcome, and I do mean all.

x

I don't worry what my rating is, nor that of any other poster. If it turns folk on then that's fine. I doubt it turns many folk off so all is good in my book.

I don't think that the rating system has really taken off on this MB, cos the numbers rating a post are so low. I do tend to click either the up or down arrows (mainly the up arrows, it has to be said) but only where the post really appeals to me, based on what is being said. I haven't used the arrows to rate a post based on who posted it. So far, I've only rated a post based on its contents

One annoying thing about the arrows is that they don't capture the true numbers who've clicked on an arrow. For instance, take a post which has a 0 rating. Someone might give it a positive rating by clicking the up arrow. Then someone else might come along and give it a down arrow. The post rating will be back to 0 even tho 2 people have rated it !

I would prefer if the arrows showed the numbers who've clicked it, as that way it would display a true reflection of the numbers voting on the post. Maybe if tweeks were made so that the numbers voting on each arrow could be shown, then more members would use the rating system

I hope that Galahad perseveres with it certainly for a reasonable amount of time

At the moment the impression that I get is that a majority of posters are voting on their personal opinion of the poster rather than their opinion of the post. Perhaps when things settle down and the silliness/envy/animosity/whatever aspects disappear the system will be helpful.

The principle is excellent but at the moment the practice leaves a lot to be desired.

There is always a risk that will perpetuate group think, conformity.  Just be mindful when you up or down vote, if the post raises a good point even if you disagree with their position consider an up vote.

I think a lot of posters possibly have not noticed yet if they are not on here regularly. We are limited to how many up and down clicks we can do per day also. If it was an unlimited I think it would be better. You can only click the same post once anyway so its not as if you could launch a post attack. I think it just seems unpopular due to the click number restraints.

I agree regarding the up and down clicks. It would be better to show the true up score and the true down score rather than a tally system.

I log on for a minute or 2 most days.

I had not noticed the rating system. Very likely many others had not either.

I suppose its only been in operation for a few days ?

I guess its a good way to express agreement or disagreement without filling threads with meaningless posts.

I think it's been in operation a bit longer than that tho I like you hadn't noticed it till I saw a thread about it - and i log on a lot to try to offer thoughtful and informative responses to pleas for help about places or ladies i have never been in or to remonstrate with the point of view of someone who's name I don't like.

A bit of a swizz that I cannot without fuss down mark someone I have blocked.

Those 457 people are lucky...

In the bottom right hand corner, green and red boxes. Vote a post you like up by hitting the green and vote a post you disagree with or dislike down by hitting the red. Go to your profile and it shows what your reputation level is. Click reputation on the left side of your profile to see which of your posts have been voted up or down.

There is a leaderboard of most popular posts linked from the bottom of the forum on the right hand side x

I don't block anyone - if anyone annoys me so much I feel like  blocking them, I still think them it would be better to read what tripe they have said today rather than not to know IMHO.  I do not subscribe to rep or karma - I think it is childish and detracts from what we are doing which is to debate.  easy to down mark someone rather than say what you really think ?

In short it stops a good argument/debate/chat/whateva......

Of course I could be one of those 457 and you won't even read this.........................................................................

I probably am

Nobody agrees with me

Nobody likes me even

It's just an extra function which I don't think adds anything to the site, one which I've mostly ignored so far.

It's very rare I block anyone from anywhere, like Sarah I feel there's no need and would rather see what they were saying. That said if I really have had enough of reading their content, or the content is having a detrimental effect on my state of mind I will after some careful consideration decide to block and not read nor receive anything from that person. Sly digs, veiled references are things I really do not like and sometimes it's just better not to be exposed to such things.

Doesn't mean I don't rise above it and decide to take it on at some point!

Well you're wrong there. I don't agree with some of what you say but I do agree with a lot if it and I'm sure that there are a lot like me on here.

Nobody likes me even

Wrong again. I'm sure that there are a lot more on here like you than you think and certainly probably a lot more like you than like me.

I'll just get my coat x

You can't get your coat. I've hidden it.

Just on the off chance that you are serious there is a phrase that you, and others like you, should always remember. I always bear it in mind should I get a little depressed.

The "new" rating system, I think, is in addition to the blocking function, which has been around since G was  virgin. I take very little notice of the ratings. I just vote any good posts up for the hell of it.

I have nobody on my "ignore"list, since I like to read the drivel of the people I dislike just as much as I like to read the literature of the people I love.

Do we have a sick bucket smiley by any chance???

I've wanted to use a sick bucket smiley many times in regard to posts by some of the other authors on here.

So it comes as no surprise that someone wants to use one in respect of one (or more) of my posts.

Each to his own. One persons sycophancy is another just being nice.

There are an awful lot of people on this site who are registered but do not post for their own personal reasons. This voting gives them a chance to express agreement or disagreement with a post if they feel strongly enough without having to post. It means they dont have to be just lurkers any longer, they can be lurker voters too. Possibly makes them feel more part of the pnet community without putting themselves out there if they are too nervous to post anything.

Sometimes people dont really have much of an opinion on something they feel worth posting so rather than fill up the notice boards repeating what 5 others have just posted you can just click. I of course keep on posting..and clicking, its just a bit of fun really.

Regarding the sly dig and veiled threats, I agree they are there sometimes and if you know its aimed at you you just "know" in your gut. Sometimes it is best just to block if something is truly upsetting you, why expose yourself to it.

Well, young Sarah, I certainly don't like the fact you are more grown up and sensible than me but I would never block you so leave your coat where it is, if only because you are now one of the few I haven't blocked.
