Anyone noticed any impact from the new laws?

Dear All,

With the Policing and Crime Bill having got through Parliament, I was curious as to whether people are seeing any actual impact yet.

Are punters simply carrying on as before?

Any news of a fall in demand?

Any news of the laws actually being used yet?

It didn't appear that any new powers were used in the recent Essex raids - no sign of any punters being arrested there.

so they can arrest punters whilst trying to establish if the sexworker is subject to force? or would the punter be bailed whilst enquires are being made?

I'll have to pass on that I'm afraid as I have no idea how it will be enforced.

You may have more of a case to plead innocence if you went on a 'dinner date' appointment. At least then you could say you had made more than reasonable attempts to ensure the woman was working of her own free will.

It has not come into force force yet, and that could take several months.

116 Commencement .(1)

Subject as follows, this Act comes into force on such day as the Secretary of State may by order appoint.

As the offence is "strict liability" there is no proving or pleading of innocence.

I would guess that the police have similar feelings. :o;)

I am looking forward to the first "test case".

My punting activities will carry on as normal. :o

From a personal point of view, the other week I had a window of opportunity, and considered going to a parlour that I have visited a few times in the past, as they had an interesting line-up with some new girls. In the same town is a well regarded Indie WG that I had also seen previously.

The (admittedly small) risk of getting caught up in a raid tipped the balance for me, and I went to see the Independent WG, and had a great time, I must say :o

Although the parlour in question has a good rep, and appears to be well-run, my thinking is that you just cannot know if the local Plod have been waiting for this opportunity to rattle a few cages?

What I find a little strange is the possibility that it takes new legislation to enforce old legislation, the running/owning/managing of a brothel has been, and still is illegal, so there never has been any reason not to close/raid a brothel.

You make a good point, I know brothels that have been operating for years with no interference from the local police.

It seems to me that as long as they don't get complaints they will turn a blind eye, far more important things to concentrate on ----- such as catching speeding motorists. :o:eek:

is rarely a problem, the problem is negligent/careless/inattentive motorists.

I saw this posted on a anescorts site. She does though not understand the new law. She is trying to get and advantage over brothels and is mis representing the new law.

Then she goes on and advertises a duo service.

I would expect that we are seeing the tip of the iceberg here, unsubstantiated/uncorroborated legal claims are not unknown.

She's so far wide of the mark I wouldn't be surprised if it's deliberate to encourage punters to come to her.

Nah, pure ignorance I'd say.

New Labour. If we don't understand it or cannot tax or control it, we'll ban it - again; to ensure that we are seen to continue with our occupation of the moral high ground.

You're right - anything else is too Machiavellian.

But I did like this comment on the ladies web site: "….I don't accept anal on my behalf…." :o

That's been puzzling me too

I am receiving more calls from gents who admit to usually using parlours. Several of them have stated that the proposals have worried them. They feel the only way to avoid prosecution/outing and still have fun is to take the independent route.

Many will ignore it and carry on as usual but it is definitely making some very twitchy.

The main problem being, it is all as clear as mud :)

Not if there is money to be made from the fines. I bet they're itching to have a go.
