How Good Are Monoblocks

8 posts in this topic

I want to install a monoblock on my satellite dish to enable me to get both The Hotbird Satellite and a particular Astra from the same dish.

Has anyone any experience of them or advice for me about it?

Thanks in advance.

I know a bit about satellite as it's a hobby, so you want to receive two satellites from one dish, with two LNB's fitted? So the first postition is Hotbird at 13.east, is the second postition Astra at 19.east or 28.east which is home to Sky and other UK broadcasters? For a dual feed system like this you will need a slightly bigger dish, because of the offset LNB's will receive a weaker signal, depends if you're in southern part of UK a 80cm dish would do, further north possibly a 1 meter dish.

Here is a video demo of a monoblock.

They are fine for their intended purpose, dampen cross talk.  However as Jerboa suggest are unlikely to work reliably with a standard sky/freeview mini dish because it won't be big enough to reflect/direct enough signal to the offset.  They are also more difficult to align because they also need a vertical skew.

That's true Wyke, and a simple solution if someone only wants to view two nearby satellites, but with the low price of DiSeq motors if it was me I'd motorise the dish then lots more postitions become available.

You can't beat trying out different positions!

Thanks for all the advice!

I remember back in the 90's foreign satellite was the only real place you could view hardcore porn, no such thing as high speed Internet and tube sites, this wasn't the reason I first had a interest in satellite tv, honest guv! ;)
