Web Hosting Servers That Wont Host An Escort Site

12 posts in this topic

WEBSITE WARNING

My escort website was set up by a run of the mill web designing company a couple of years ago and approaching renewal I sent a query to my Web Hosting server Just Host regarding renewal fees. They then sent me an e mail in reply saying:

Upon review of your account, the following example file(s) that we found to be in violation of our Terms of Service are as follows.  PLEASE NOTE: this is not an all inclusive list.  You will need to fully review your account for addition files that violate the Terms of Service.

Please remove all adult related content from the account.  This includes your escort website.

Just Host are a US company but since I'm in the UK didn't imagine that my site was illegal!

Now looking for a UK web hosting co that has nothing to do with the US, I have 7 days to transfer my site then they will cancel my contract.....of course you can't expect the host to trawl all websites for content, but maybe the word 'escort' in the domain name might have been an obvious clue, also if I hadn't sent them a query it would probably have passed unnoticed for another 2 years.  It would be laughable if it wasn't so inconvenient!

So my advice is check out who your server is and in the meantime can anyone recommend a UK based hosting company without the US restrictions?

Thanks - Rachel

Hostgator are a bit slow in answering questions, the best would be to check what other people are doing on whois.sc and then target the hosting company that suits you based on their fees/bandwith alocation and other criteria that might interest you.  Good luck.

Reminds me.

It is important to check with the hosting company on their procedure if you should exceed your bandwidth allocation!  Some just let you continue and add an additional charge to your bill for that month (Good).  Others may suspend your site until you pay a top up fee (Bad).  Or suspend your site until the end of the current month (Bad).

We've always found GoDaddy to be extremely reliable, with the additional plus that you can phone them 24/7 on a UK number.

GoDaddy  are cheap but should not be recommended their reputation amongst experts is appaulling.

They are American and will have similar moral turpitude clause in their TOS.

If you pick one of the above webhost suggestions, it is good to check as well, whether they accept adult content. In the Netherlands some webhosting companies do accept adult content, but others do not. If some of them do not, the reason may be that they don't want to be associated with adult content. I don't know about webhosting providers in the UK.
