Eu Declares That Prostitution Revenue Must Be Included In Member Countries' Gdp

6 posts in this topic

Later this year, the UK economy will get a £10bn boost from illegal drugs and prostitution, writes Anthony Reuben on the BBC news web site. The Office for National Statistics, which has to calculate the figure, confirmed it at an economic forum last week and will publish more details next month. It will be £3bn from prostitution and £7bn from illegal drugs.

Statisticians need only be concerned with the takings of prostitutes who have been resident in the country for more than a year and research is recommended on the supply-side (prostitutes) rather than the demand side (their clients) as it is more reliable.

[Apologies for the lack of capitalisation of EU and GDP in the subject of this post. The system converts these to Eu and Gdp after posting and I cannot find a way to invoke the "Edit" function to change this]

how on earth are they going to enumerate that.  Prostitution has always defied bean counters.  And where does the 3bn figure come from?

From the 80,000  WG figure that's bandied about for the UK ?

That's  £37,500 p/a  each    something's wrong somewhere.

At least the picture they are using to illustrate is new and not taken at night.

That's not a WG picture, she's not leaning in a car window.

Apart from the picture the BBC make the mistake of calling prostitution an illegal activity.

Given that all political parties regard boosting the economy as a number one priority it's bad news for the supporters of the Swedish approach
