Paying For Sex 'should Be Outlawed' - Belfast Telegraph

4 posts in this topic

A short piece here in the Belfast Telegraph.

"Paying for sex should be made illegal and the laws on prostitution need reforming, a former Conservative Cabinet minister said."

I've just seen the same article in The Independent, here. Lots of encouraging comments on this one!

Paying for sex should be encouraged. In fact, sex starved people like me who get nothing from their boring wives should be given cash grants and tax incentives for paying for sex. By paying for sex, I get what I want. The WG gets what she wants. The wife doesn't have to be forced into boring sex. I don't have to engage in extra-marital affairs and cheat my wife and the other lady. Every one is a winner. Punting is a multi-million pound industry that is beneficial the economy. Everyone is a winner, so why don't these Government idiots legalise it for once and for all?

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/apr/21/plans-reform-ulster-prostitution-laws-unworkable

Legislation to enforce a "Swedish model" of anti-prostitution laws in Northern Ireland that criminalise the buyers of sex would be unworkable because the devolved government at Stormont has no powers to authorise telephone bugging operations.

The region's justice minister, David Ford, has told the Guardian he is far from convinced over the plans because mobile intercepts – crucial in prosecutions in countries which have introduced the laws – are rarely used even in cases against republican and loyalist terror groups.

Police would have to intercept all calls from clients to sex workers in the province, Ford warned. He said only a UK cabinet minister such as the Northern Ireland secretary had the power to sign off spying operations.

Interesting.

If this law goes ahead in N. Ireland and they don't get the powers to intercept mobile phone conversations then their enforcement system will probably be similar to Sweden's- by getting an escort's address from a fake booking then standing outside the building waiting and listening for sex noises to use as evidence (see my recent thread).

Unfortunately there are too many people caught up in an emotive moral scaremongering panic to think clearly to see how much of a joke the IKEA model really is.
