Things Picking Up?

19 posts in this topic

That nice mr Osborne is saying things are really picking up in the general economy. I was wondering if the wgs are noticing a pick up in trade or punters have more disposable cash?

Does escorting fluctuate with the economy or has it survived the bad times really well?

If times are getting better will there be a drift up in prices after so many years of stagnation?

I believe so...

As always we have a two tier system (some may argue that in fact its a three, four or even five tier system)...

But in general chit-chat the ladies i have spoken to in the last fortnight seem to be running a full diary and that can only be a good thing...

As for rising prices...i tend to pay whatever i need to pay and like most, there is someone out there to meet everyone's critea (price in this regard)...

But a good, healthy economy is good news indeed so just hope the wheels begin to turn a little faster...

There is a "house price index" so why not a "punt price index". Then we could all monitor the situation, the media could quote the figures, percentage increases, regional variations etc etc

Broadcast and print media would have to appoint punting correspondents, who would have all the relevant knowledge! I might even apply for a job myself, depending on the expenses allowed!

Perhaps I could co-host "Snatch Of The Day" with you?

That depends on how telegenic you are; I don't want to be upstaged by a young whippersnapper!! :o

Great question - Is punting a suitable barometer for the uk economy? Well, lets look at it as if we were assessing any other variable on the economy eg retail sales, household spending etc.

As Im not in the industry, I can't comment in a big way but pass on anecdotes from what I hear from wgs. I think one would have to seperate london from the rest of the country as the capital seems to have its own rules compared to the rest of the uk ,....mainly due to overseas money and an imbalanced economy towards financial services. So I'd imagine business has been very good in London Town and the South East....at all levels, budget, mid-price and elite.

I may be wrong of course (it has been known) - there may be more competition not only from immigration but other wgs heading to london? Information is more readily available through the usual sites so "touting for business" and developing a name isnt a hurdle.... please advise any industry insiders

taking london out the equation....what about the rest of the UK...north, mids, s.west..wales....maybe that would be a better indicator of economic health

I can sort of understand immigrant escorts keeping prices low as new plane loads of women arrive form Thailand or Eastern Europe. But surely there comes a time when that option is the law of diminishing returns, the punters yearn for a wg who speaks good English for example.

In classical economic theory I cannot decided if the demand for escorting is elastic or inelastic.

"elasticity of demand" - Oh lessingham....you're taking me back to alevel...again, just thinking out aloud. But I'd imagine in london the demand is quite inelastic...when it comes to elite prices and "mid-range" for want of a better phrase.

I say inelastic as I imagine demand is constant (high). So for the elite, there'll always be some rich guy doing his stuff in the capital and for all the other well known popular places with wonderful ladies (HoD, Maxes, TBL etc ) well, their prices may be higher than the rest of the country but I dont think it'd put off punters in londons. That is, even if some people would decline, or put off punting if prices went up, I think there is enough people willing to cough up 150 - 250 for a session. Again, its a london-centric comment based on nothing but opinion

on a serious note, there must be some actual studies with hard evidence on this subject......????

Yes, escorting fluctuates with the economy and weather changes.  However, those with lower prices  or well established might not feel it as bad as others in different 'circumstances.  I am not talking about the rest of the world, but purely about central London area where the higher competition is.

I think things are picking up.  You only have to look at the new businesses on the high street to see this.  As far as escorting goes, I can't really comment as I have always had more than enough work.  I won't put my prices up though.  i feel they are more than high enough.

I had to change my name quite some time ago.  In my other name I was £180 for an hour, and the fee was going up to £200 when something happened and the old me had to remove herself from the radar.  The new me 'Sarah'..  went back down to £160 and has been so ever since...  not quite so ethical :)
