Charlies de Gaulle?

Sorry.

Nice to have some good news on that front.

It is also being considered in N. Ireland and now Canada. I expect it to pass in N. Ireland (being a very religious country the Nordic model will have a better chance) but hopefully Canada will make the right decision.

Sweden want their model globalized, but thanks to the resistance put up against it so far things are not going to plan for them. As far as I know Sweden/Norway/Iceland are still the only countries to have it.

My understanding is that the fight is not fully won in France yet and no doubt the loons will have another go in a few uears when they lose this one!

Norway has the law under review with a view to repeal as it has made life hell on earth for sex workers! It's largely irrelevant in Iceland as Icelandic people have a very liberal approach to 'Civvie' sex and the society is so small, prostitution never really flourished.

RE Northern Ireland, it remains a largely dysfunctional society with religious loons (both RC and Protestant and loons of other descriptions) and I forsee it passing there!

The odds are strong it will pass in The Republic also - The Paddy model which may include subsuming any phone number known to be linked to prostitution by the police and legally equating anyone (escort/punter) who downloads an escort related site such as Punternet with a child molester downloading scenes of children being raped - No I'm actually serious, it has been recommende by a staked parliamentary committee full of gobshites unfit to hold any public office at all!

Canada will almost certainly pass it with Steve Harpe, Prime Minister, being a fundamentalist Christian! Though thye were mandated by The Canadian Supreme Court to change the original law as it endangered sex worker safety, It would be impossible to suggets that the Swedish Model does not!

The French Senate voted in recent days to reject it. So I believe this current attempt has officially failed. But of course, give it a few years and they will try again (along with Scotland and England no doubt).

Iceland is so sparsely populated (it has the same land area as Scotland, but the city of Glasgow alone has 20x more people than the entire country of Iceland) I agree prostitution naturally won't flourish much there. I can't find the article but I read something a while back that said Iceland's police resources were so low they couldn't enforce such a law anyway.

What is concerning is that during both the T.Godman and R.Grant proposals in Scotland to propose criminalization I would ask escorts I visited what they thought, and most of them had no idea there even was a proposal going on! So how come there were many escorts unaware of the proposal yet there were tonnes of churchgoers who knew about it (the public consultation results were saturated with responses from churchgoers).

This is a bet I would like to lay. Not that I doubt your concerns, just that I have a belief in the combined ability of the people of the wonderful Union Kingdom of Northern Ireland and Great Britain to eventually get it right, or avoid getting it wrong as is the muddlesome way we tend to do things.

Northern Ireland is increasingly tolerant. Afaik, belfast north ( majority RC ) has a prot MP and belfast south ( majority prot ) has a RC MP for example.

The evidence given to the justice committee by MLA Jim Wells has been confirmed as fabricated, by several people including his own researcher Austin Orr.

There are practicalities of applying phone taps to harlots and 'phone conversations for a Nordic model to work, which cannot be implemented in this Union even with the proposals in Parliament today to continue government snooping.

And NI probably has one of the wisest justice ministers in David Ford there has ever been, who has had the bare-faced cheek to commission academics to do some research.

Yes David Forde is a sane man for sure and he is a psychiatrist by profession which must be of great assistance in dealing with those MLA nut jobs!
