Radio 4 Programme On Street Prostitution Policy Next Wednesday

4 posts in this topic

This programme next Wednesday (30 July) at 12:30 pm looks worth monitoring.

Face the Facts

Episode 6. Prostitution: Red Light? Green Light?

John Waite investigates the varying approaches to street prostitution across the UK since the murders of five women in Ipswich eight years ago. This was viewed as a wake-up call for how the sex industry was policed nationwide, but critics claim that a change in tactics by the force contributed to a recent murder in London.

I caught the last couple of minutes of this in the car this afternoon. I'll have to pick it up on iPlayer:

Thanks for that link, Max - a surprisingly enlightened investigation and informative, if less so to those of us who usually see indies.  Interesting to hear the comments of the local police forces and then those of their overseers - ACPO and the Met.  The latter would get hung out to dry by the Harriet Harmans and the Dennis McShanes (when he gets paroled) of this world if they showed any understanding of the 'problem' or any enlightened approach to dealing with it.  And the media and 'anti-prostitution industry' would ensure that public outrage was perpetuated by repeating their lies, damn lies and statistics.

ps, congratulations on achieving 1,000 posts.
