When Sex Workers Report Their Clients It Helps Others

4 posts in this topic

Well done to this WG who's done exactly the right thing : http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/09/27/sex-workers-deserve-protection-from-rape-too.html?via=desktop&source=twitter

Sad story but alas, not unique...

Sex work is work and sex workers deserve respect.

And NO, rapes, assaults, hostage-taking and other crimes are NOT an acceptable behaviour.

I couldn't agree more. Sex work is work like any other job and should be as respected a profession as any other. If not moreso because these girls go to the houses of these guys not knowing how dangerous the punter is but without prejudice they put their lives at risk. Even police officers have backup radios and body armour.

This is why sensible laws regarding the right to sell sex must be upheld and discrimination against safe working areas (i.e brothels) must be ended. It's bad enough that in this age women are still subject to harassment for wearing 'revealing' clothing or just for looking good while walking down the street.

We may pour scorn on India and other third world / developing countries for some of the rape stories which have emerged recently and their supposed backward attitudes and legal misgivings but the west has so far too go still. Particularly the USA where this girl could've been prosecuted just for offering her services and visiting this guy.

Rupert Everett's excellent two part documentary on Channel 4 made very similar points. One of the sanest pieces of TV I had seen for ages.

I think we all ought to be grateful that we live in a country where reporting a crime against us isnt admitting to a crime at the same time. I know if I was attacked I wouldnt hesitate to contact the police because I know that Im breaking no laws. I know some officers are not that receptive to escorts troubles but at the end of the day they wouldnt be able to fob off my solicitor even if they tried to fob me off
