I guess they are comfortable with their stereotypes

It's an interesting article. As usual, take a complex subject, throw some facts at it, make some general assumptions and come up with some foregone conclusions.

I guess they are comfortable with their stereotypes

Journalists always consider themselves so worldly, while peddling the usual "same old, same old". Parrots have nothing on them..... lazy buggers - yawn.

BBC crap journalism.

The headline states more than one in 10 men have paid for sex, but lower doen it says 11% SAY they have paid for sex.

How illeterate?

Complaint to BBC submitted.

One wonders if we can find simple errors like this how much else of their news is accurate? They had an economics journo on breakfast some time ago that didnt know the difference between defecit and debt.

Yes I read it and thought an editor should have asked some questions.

It's a very small sample in my view and it is a topic where many respondents may be supposed not to give a truthful answer fearing that even an anonymous tick might somehow get back to their wife or partner.

I think the 10% is low for having ever punted and I was surprised how how a percentage were said to have punted abroad - that seemed ludicrous just from common sense.

Of the 10%, I wonder how many just had one or two punts  and how many are seasoned punters. I guess we shall never know.

there are 2442 escort profiles on AW available today.

thats quite a lot.

then there are those girls who dont pay for availble today

and girls in parlours who aint on AW

so lets say 5000 girls working today seeing an average of 3 punters

15000 punts today

I think punting is far far bigger than they reckon.

I think it high time someone warned Mr Miliband how many votes the policies of his idiot feminist tendency could lose. Not a coincidence why the French Socialists are so unpopular

I was fully convinced by your posting till I realised it wants someone brighter than me to translate this into % of UK male population.

I don't think I would agree that paying for sex is linked to drugs and alcohol abuse!  I haven't seen this.  Also why do the BBC show a picture of street workers??? Is this what sex work is like in the UK for example?  I bet more than 10% of men pay for sex but not illegal pick up street worker type that the BBC thinks is the norm! unless I am wrong.

Depends who you ask.Seeing as they have the majority as having punted abroad, specifically Thailand and Amsterdam you can guess the general demographic here. What are the other big draws to these areas besides sex.And if you're interviewing a largely stag or lads weekend/hols crowd then yes,the two go hand in hand. For the majority of actual punters however,i'd be amazed if this was the case.

A year ago if somebody had told me I would be one of the 10% I would have laughed at him. :)

Happy to have seen the light and become one of the minority now, despite my current wobbles. I'm sure the best is yet to come.

Every man I know pays for sex. But whereas I pay with hard cash, they pay with their freedom

Eight out of nine men are NOT paying for sex - is that for real? The 'Hey, I don't need to' masculine majority. If it is real then I want them to teach me how they do it, set up seminars, travel the country sharing their ahem 'best practices'. How to flirt and how to bounce back from rejection, or when the woman you fancy asks how old you think she is ( do you deliberately guess low? ).

The quiet 89% majority have the answers and are not paying apparently.

To vivluvsme

Converting a daily total punt figure to a number of punters figure is hard. Because you need to know how often men punt.

All I was trying to say is a simple analysts can show punting is a mainstream activity, not some minority thing.

Interestingly the recent Observer survey came up with a figure of 22%

http://www.punternet.com/forum/index.php/topic/36947-the-observer-sex-uncovered-2014/

Don't know whether the respective survey methodologies or the precise questions asked could in any way help to explain the significant difference in these two figures from these two separate surveys.  I would certainly agree, however, that a significant number of men, when asked the question "Have you ever paid for sex?"  would be likely untruthfully to say "no", resulting in an an underestimate of the true percentage.

Men lie in sex surveys, they say they sleep with more women than they do as it makes them sound better to themselves, so by similar argument they are extremely likely to lie andsay no, as to say yes would make them sound worse.

After all how many men on here (where the figure is probably 100%) would actually admit to it in a survey.

Actually it's quite an interesting question on here as it would show how many of the 89% were lieing,

Lies, dam lies and statistics.....I never believe any sexual study research - always an agenda and sure conclusion is foregone....glad to be a statistic but will never take part in a survey - load of bollocks - I don't know but I just always think the % of us naughty lads who pay for the pleasure is way higher than anybody would imagine - and anyway we all pay for sex one way or the other.

I read recently that most fellas think if they have taken a lady out for two meals and spent around £180 wining and dinning that sex is on the cards - whereas I'd rather spend £150-200 up front with a gorgeous lady of my choice and no for sure that sex is on the menu!!

I was a member on a well known dating site up until about 6 months ago, and I found out very quickly 2 things (subject tothe dates going well)

1/ You had to snog by the end of the 2nd date

2/ Sex was expected on the 3rd

and that was the girls pushing, I would like to say that my name is George clooney, but the reality is slightly different(mid forties, paunch, and not too many mirrors break when I look at them)

the only downside is that you had to go through the dating process to get the sex, still I guess with the likes of Tinder that's become a lot quicker.

I would guarantee the figure is not 100%.

Unless they are lying...
