Laura To Launch Legal Challenge Against Ni Prostitution Ban

46 posts in this topic

This is the first time I've seen coverage of this.

Link to Guardian article:

Lee, 37, said: “I am doing this because I believe that when two consenting adults have sex behind closed doors and if money changes hands then that is none of the state’s business. The law they have introduced has nothing to do with people being trafficked but simply on their, the DUP’s, moral abhorrence of paid sex.

Good luck Laura!

I applaud Laura's bravery, but this is a scattergun challenge to the law ( 4 possible legal avenues based around European human rights law iirc ) and it could quickly be expensive and futile. Not only that Northern Ireland is not like anywhere else, their politicians are tenacious, and had no problem with accepting unquestioned the fabricated testimony at the Committee stages.

The principle that the State can interfere in the private affairs of consenting paying adults has long been established and isn't likely to be changed.  The sale of illegal drugs which are no more harmful than legal ones and consuming them in private is the best example.

The way to get bad laws changed imv is for decent people to go out and break them. If you don't give a damn, then pop to NI after June and book an escort, by 'phone ideally as the PSNI can't tap, and have some paid fun. If the police ask you what you got up to, deny everything.

The European Court Of Human Rights is a very genuine institution, it is not a jokey shitehole like the EU court or rigged parliamentary committees or the Northern Ireland Assembly which is essentially an institution to reward mostly  psychotic redneck savages who have decided to stop killing each other!

Laura can be financially support here -

Please bear in mind the people who suffer by the most from Swedish Model insanity are sex workers and by contributing £, you may very well be saving a sex worker's life along with protecting the  livelihoods and security of all sex workers!

I've read this too and am so admirative of this woman, really. We need such strong and determined people in the industry. Hats off, Laura Lee :)

Just to show some of the crap she's having to contend with http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/debateni/blogs/sex-worker-laura-fighting-to-keep-her-business-within-law-31094982.html  Goes to show that journalistic integrity is dead. The only saving grace was seeing ScrewFix in big letters above it.At least the ad guy has a sense of humour.

I like the Freudian misspelling:

However, as the 37-year-old law graduate points out, all of those consumers she works with are consenting adults and some are unable, through physical disabilities for instance, to have sex via the conventional, non-fiscal way.

Although not disabled, I have sex in the unconventional fiscal way - I pay for it!

I wanted to donate but I'm not brave enough to give as much personal information as required.

If there was another way?

The first punter to be arrested under this insane law (I'm presuming no sex worker was coerced and indeed 3 of them were also arrested under the even more insane brothel laws) has just been aprehended by The PSNI (N. Ireland Police!)!

You would wonder how they picked on him!

Laura Lee's case to get the insane Northern ireland sex purchase law removed is set for an initial hearing in the Belfast High Court on Feb 17! No better woman!

I gather that Laura's case might be heard in mid February, so see my previous post.

*worries about accusations  of pimping*  :)

This is quite shocking. The politicians have had months to prepare an intervention. It sounds as though the judge thought so, as well. I'm just sorry that Laura will have more nervous waiting and, I assume, increased costs.

Have they been requested by The Mexicans South of the border to delay this case until The Republic's los Banditos version of it can be slyed through?

The NI authorites may also be trying to make Laura exhaust her funds, so it's imperative to support her as much as possible!

Also the more aggro they subject her to here, the quicker it gets to ECHR, if that's her intention!
