Politics And Sex Work

29 posts in this topic

Something ive been curious about the last few days. Now I dont want to start off a political debate as enough of that going on elsewhere, but with so many people complaining about how the new government is going to make everyone poorer, and how they will destroy our way of living etc..Do we reckon sex workers will end up lowering or raising prices as a result?

On one hand, girls such as escorts and web cammers could possibly end up lowering their prices in order to gain more work to cope? On the other, they could raise their prices in order to compensate for extra taxes or whatever to keep the earnings up? We'll see what happens over the next few months..

But thats the point..if everyones going to be as hard up now as the lefties are claiming, will some put prices down to get more work, in which case others will follow to stay in competition, or will they put up prices to cover the new hardships without having to work more..again the competition will follow suit..

A few years back the average price of an hour punt with an indie was £70-80 an hour here..now its £100-120..will we soon start seeing the average become £120-140, or go back down to the £80-100 mark?

If foodbanks are going to be needed even more from now on as is claimed, then everyone has to do something to make some more money..and punters will also be spending less..

If there is a referendum *and* UK leaves the EU *and* we stop new girls coming from EE, then I think prices will go up.   Not much else will have an effect.

More likely things will just carry on exactly how they are  especially as he government is business as usual. I have no reason to lower my prices, I have no urge to up my prices. Lowering my prices brings me the sort of guy who treats me (not always but more often) like a bit of meat and are not really that interested sometimes in any interaction, they just arrive and expect to lay there and be serviced. Upping my prices may bring me more per booking but Id rather have 2 x 130 than 1 x 150.

If cameron keeps to his promise and ups the tax threshold then those who see younger guys may find they have more bookings as those people on the lower wages, often still at home, will have more cash to splash.

if you are going to be hard up under tory then you will already be hard up, if you are not already chances will then you wont become hard up just because they stayed in power

I dont know where you have been punting but a few years back the average price in MK was exactly what it is now, 120 an hour, I charged 140 privately and got plenty of work. I dont know anyone who charges 80 an hour. Plenty did, do and will continue to charge 100 an hour. The simple fact is that a girl will charge what she feels is her optimum rate in the area she is located in regardless of what others are charging.

Yes a lot of people use food banks but they already admitted they vastly inflated the numbers doing so. Families on low incomes will have more cash in their pockets when the tax floor is increased not less

Maybe an interesting thing about sex work is that because it is essentially unregulated, then it is also defined by the vagaries of free market supply and demand. I don't think prices are going to be determined very much by who won the election. You could say that the Conservatives have a stronger rein on the economy, in which case there is more likelihood of more money being in the system, as society is generally more prosperous, so demand potentially increases. On the other hand, if an EU referendum results in the UK leaving the EU, then supply will go down, as fewer sex workers will come here from abroad. You could also argue, that as benefits are taken away, and life gets tougher at the bottom (including for students and young people), then supply will again go up, as more are tempted towards this kind of work as a way of making ends meet. The permutations are endless .... but I personally don't really buy the argument that 'everyone is now going to be hard up', 'as the lefties are claiming' .....  and I've never voted Conservative in my life, and I doubt I ever will ......

I'm just extremely happy that the Conservatives don't intend on changing the laws regarding paying for and being paid for sex. They are also increasing the tax threshold, so I'll be taking more home. Hoping the lovely gents out there will be spending their bit of extra money on us ladies ;)

Cardiff/south wales for me.

Don't think ive ever gone above £100, most of my punts have been in the £70-80 range. Have not punted in almost a year now though due to rising costs (and the progressivly bad/boring meetings) and not prepared to pay a weeks wages on an hour I might not even enjoy. Typically the good ones have all given up these days that ive seen before.

In my experience the two facts could be related.

That's a shame!  It makes me feel I'm paying a premium for being a nice guy.  :)

I'm in a service industry with mainly private customers.  Over the years I've pushed my prices to the upper range of what the market will stand in my area and find I make more money for less work,  I've concentrated on providing the best service and customer relations so have loyal clients and loads of recommendations.

I'm sure the same would apply in the sex industry.  It amazes me that there are so may WG's out there who don't seem to have cottoned on to this and provide poor service.

Not really. I dont charge a premium rate in my area. Plus, nice guys dont go on the "donteveranswerthisnumberagain" list, even if someone is happy to pay my fee they can still end up on that list if they are not nice x

By the same token I know someone who used to sell those bits and bobs in nightclubs, he knocked 10p off everything so was 10p cheaper and sold far far far more thus making more money by charging less.

It all depends what your market is, where you are, what you offer, what  you look like, how much competition is in  your area, what size pocket the guys in your area have, if your area is accessible to people travelling up and down the country, how much a guy wants to book  you etc etc

In this industry you can provide a fantastic service, have a lovely clean apartment, do the best you possibly can for you clients and they will still go and book the other girl instead of you next time simply because she is a tenner cheaper this week or the girl touring to your area even if she is more expensive (and he always books your cheapest time slot) because she has never visited here before.

Price depends on a variety of variables including, demand, capacity, availability, and how many clients a person wishes to accept.

We got poorer in the recession, we are no longer in recession, therfore we are no longer getting poorer. As the economy is now growing, we are actually getting richer, as a result there will be more money in the econonmy leading to a higher disposable income, which leads to higher demand and that finally will lead to higher prices. So in answer to the origianal poster's question the cost of sex is going to go up. What needs to be bourne in mind though is that this a macroeconomic argument that will cover the sector as a whole for the entire country, and what happens regionally will be different and what happens for individuals will be even more different potentially.

Agree with prince charlie. One can expect to see regional variations but I think like many areas if our economy there will be a london-centric / south east divide to the rest if the country. I'm not expressing my support for any political party but in the immediate term there's a pereceieved boost (let's ignore the EU vote for the mo). I'm sure there was a jump for joy in certain quarters last week with Tory majority eg no 50%tax, no extra non dom charges, no mansion tax, commitments to increase upper tax free threshold, continued lowering of corporation tax...all in all beneficial for some and I guess that client base will indulge!!!!!

So in some quarters prices will invariably go up...can't blame the WG for that.

I know, this too, plus, what guys in your area are happy to pay. Its a mutual thing, you cannot charge a fee that no one will pay

I expect the poorest in society, who the Tories are likely to hit the most aren't spending their hard earned money on escorts at the moment anyway.

I don't think the colour of the political map will have a significant, or even any material, effect on prices. But, the 'blue collar Tories' with their new-found shopkeeper's sons and garage proprietor's daughters might just have a slightly more tolerant approach to the profession in general. They could not be worse than a Labour government with an HH influence, or a coalition government with the po-faced Liberal influence. Realistically, they probably won't have the time even to consider prostitution in the next five years, but, if they do, perhaps there could just be some modernisation in the approach. For example, they might just do something like permitting more than one lady to work from the same premises. Or are my rose-coloured spectacles too obvious?

I doubt they every were though. Wont the tax barrier being raised help them have more funds left in their pockets.
