Getting Calls From Gum Clinic. Even Though Only Text Option Selected

12 posts in this topic

Few days back i had gone to GUM clinic for my regular check up and met with a consultant. The Dr asked me for a follow up appointment after 4 weeks.

The docotor called me today to inform that the appointment needs to be moved to a later date.

I was little uncomfortable with picking up the call. I would have expected that they would always text instead of calling. Quite strange that they still called. They could have simply sent a text that i need to contact them.

Did you specify how they could contact you?

The clinic I visit has a form, and boxes you can tick to say contact by phone call, text, letter or not.

Kumar I think you did not mention that how they will contact you. So just check the form and select texting option.

Hi,

while filling in the form i had specified ONLY contact by text. This morning i had gone for my appointment and in the reception i asked them to once again verify that contact should be via text only. They looked at the system and confirmed that my preference was to set to TEXT ONLY. They apologised but also said that since it was the consultant who was supposed to see me, they can choose to contact via phone if they want too. The consultants have options to ignore what has been my preference.

This was annoying. What is the point of providing the preference when consultants can choose to ignore them?

May be the consultant's first language is not English so he/she did not understand. :P:D

For these 'discrete' get a 2nd sim. Use in an old phone or when you need to pick up messages like this

When visiting a GUM, do you have to give your home address and Doctors details or can you be pretty anonymous.

I was asked for a postcode area and my doctors. Which I happily gave - seeing as I didn't give them my real name...

I'm not sure quite what would happen should they find anything that needs treating - or whether they'd want to contact my GP - but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

There is usually a tick box for methods of contact including one for consent or not for contacting your GP.

So long as they have a way of contacting you and you decline consent, they should not contact your GP.

I use my punting phone for such appointments. That way when it rings I know what to expect, and I never have it on my person unless I am engaged in some nefarious activity.

I realise its up to the individual but as a guide what would be a recommended frequency for a check up for someone who sees maybe 1 or 2 escorts a month?

Thanks
