Has this ever happened to you?

I was recently staying in a pleasant city centre hotel and sleeping entirely innocently (yes, really) when the alarms went off at 2 am in the morning. It was hard not to cast a curious eye on my fellow guests as we huddled on the pavement and speculate whether there were any ladies there a bit unofficially. Impossible to tell, actually, and I guess if you were visiting a gent, your name wouldn't appear on the roll call anyway, so you'd just keep schtum.

However, I was pleased it didn't happen the following night...

So, has this kind of unforeseen interruption ever befallen you?

I had a fire evacuation at one hotel where I was entertaining, and also a power cut at a clients hotel whom I was visiting. In the first instance we were close to the end of the booking time, so he sidled off quietly, second occasion we had a knock at the door "You'll know why I'm here", for a moment my paranoia kicked in. Once again it was at the end of the booking (although power cut had happened right at the beginning), so I did the sidling off.

Hi,

Had an evacuation once because some idiot was smoking in their room and it set the sensors off. Thankfully, it was not a booking (well not that kind of booking lol). I didn't look to see anyone else there... I was just p!ssed off that I was woken up at 0400hrs and had to stand out in the freezing cold for almost 1/2 hour. If it did happen, I hope I'd be pretty cool about it... I think it would only stick out if there was, say a young girl (early 20's) with a blatantly middle-aged ./ elderly guy or otherwise obviously mismatched. Otherwise, I'd probably just think they were a couple there like any other.

No, I was touring in a hotel once and the girl I was with had words with the receptionist. Not so long later the alarm outside our room went off whilst she was in with someone

Father and daughter? Just because they're together on the pavement doesn't mean they were in the same bed.

Nor that they are paying each other. As someone who has had a couple of 'age-gap' relationships, I have only once openly been assumed to be a daughter. If another person wishes to make assumptions, whilst that is up to them, it is also something which annoys me.

Assume nothing.

Yes, it was my last night at an Hotel in Vancouver, Canada and at around 1am the alarm went and we all had to walk downstairs to the lobby. It transpired that a couple of idiots had come back drunk and were lighting matches in the corridor on the floor below. I have punted in Vancouver, but mostly in private flats.

I once worked on the 26th floor in the Canary Wharf tower and they used to have fire drills. We had to walk down the 25 floors (There isn't a 13th) to a safe area before being allowed back up the lifts.

No kidding? Is that standard in high-rise buildings? Bit odd in anywhere that will have international users as unlucky numbers differ in different countries.

Hold on a second,

Who said I would jump to the conclusion that they were sleeping with each other? I simply said that something like that might strike me as slightly unusual, and more likely to catch my eye.... and yes, in that scenario I might ask that question quietly to myself (along with a few others maybe). But... I would only think about it for a few seconds before seeing who else has been kicked out (unless I found the girl particularly attractive ^_^ ). It's not like I'd stare at them in a judgemental way, interrogate them or yell to everyone they need to be stoned to death for their sins.

Moreover, the mere fact that I'm posting on this board would mean I'm in no position to be judgmental on them, even if I DID conclude they were a client / escort. How hypocritical would that be? I was only answering the question the OP asked.

As long as they're all consenting adults, it's none of my business.

I was in San Antonio earlier on this year and the alarm went off in the hotel we just checked in.  I was walking naked in the room, as I normally do, when the alarm went off and I had to put my clothes on to get out in that July humidity.  Thank God we were turned back to our rooms due to the false alarm: I was stuck on the 4th floor trying to help a very old lady in the emergency stair case area who could not move and just came there in holiday from Dallas, so I never saw what went on in the reception area.

Last summer I was in an airport hotel when alarm went off, staff did ok getting some disabled people out, but what worried me was that the Fire brigade never turned up, is it not law that hotel alarms are linked? we were not allowed back in for 45 minutes until staff had made building safe to return, strange thing was that the Fire brigade building is next door, never saw a sole from there.

I remember having to do that after 9/11. It plays hell with your thigh muscles

Many years ago when  I was a lad, I lived in an all male halls of residence. It was the time of the London IRA bombings and at midnight the alarm went off. Down we all trooped to the assembly area, the women trying to hide in the scrum. All was well and the warden said we could return. Suddenly he bellowed "Gentlemen, where are your manners? Ladies first!"  Three very red faced women walked the walk of shame back through the doors to cheers and applause. Simpler times, happier ones too
