The shop window that is PN

Commercial sex has been made so much simpler by the advent of the internet.  However, some people, especially those on the selling side, need to be very careful not to trip over themselves due to the surfeit of information out there. Lessons are out there for all to learn from. Of course, not everyone is aware of what can go wrong. Eventually, though,  careless people will fall foul of the huge amount of data available to those looking to buy sex.

Internet usage has made the selling of sex far more sophisticated than the old fashioned shop window adverts and contact magazines of the 60's and 70's.  Simply put, there are so many sites for guys to use in their searching for the best escorts that service providers  need to be aware of the pitfalls.

Adultwork, which used to be persona non grata here, together with LBB,  and a plethora of other sites all compete for the guys attention.

Consideration of all the potential hazards of internet advertising does not seem to have occurred to too many escorts. Of all the errors, conflicting information across the internet seems to be the most prevalent. Whether it is wise to have multiple profiles is for others to judge, but my view is that too many profiles can work against the best interests of a service provider

The other difficulty for advertisers seems to be the difficulty of removing out of date information.  I was haveing a wonderful time with a girl from a Leeds agency (Elise from IK Services) and she was surprised to hear that she could still be found (some years later) as Filthy French Fuck Slut of Wakefield.   She was both georgeous and a FFFS.  But it makes the point, as 'advertisers' transit through the business and reinvent themselves they need to clear up their old personas.

This is definitely an issue, and some directories are either unresponsive or extremely slow which can prove a problem even for active advertisers.

There are also several websites which proport to be caring 'safety' or 'escort association' sites, offering misleading advice on the legalities surrounding prostitution - some of which could land seller or buyer into hot water, or at least prevent them from reporting crimes keeping themselves in precarious situations and letting criminals get away with their actions. These websites are usually only ever directories, who have cut and paste some very bad advice!

Absolutely agree.

Also sites that take your information and pictures without your knowledge is very annoying.

i stupidly had a public face picture when I first joined Adultwork and another directory used it on their site along with a link to my profile and my number, took me weeks to get it down and I hadn't even noticed my information was on there for months!

I constantly check now and make sure all is up to date and identifying pictures cannot be found.

Curiously a number of independent WGs have told me that it is easier to update their AW profiles than their own web sites, which means that if there is any discrepancy (e.g.in prices) it is likely that the AW profile will be more up to date.

One girl I contacted a little while ago, was advertising under different names and charging different sums. Turned out she was advertising different prices on AW to prices via an agency. However on further inspection, she only knew of 3 sites she was advertising on, the other 3 kept her pics and used her details, they have since been deleted.

Correct, it's one of the wins of AW, however my website is just as easy/same number of steps, and without the 'rules' on content imposed by AW.

Drives me mad because whilst I can change AW and my site easily and change directories I advertise on with varying ease, info on sites that have just lifted my profile I don't know about will keep old info and I get calls from men asking me things I don't do or thinking I am 5 years younger or that I am in some place I have no toured in for years.

If I discover I am advertised without my consent anywhere they soon get a stern letter asking them to remove it. It's one of those annoying things that takes up time as far as I am concerned, and why it's OK for potential clients to double check my details when they call.

Noticed more escorts advertising on Vivastreet whilst having a profile on AW. However on neither do they mention the other site. For verified workers,

I would have thought linking them was better. I am sure someone knows better than me.

I discovered myself listed on a directory ad as being in Lancaster, a man rang me thinking that's where I was based - although the wording was lifted from elsewhere and did explain I'm outcall only in South Lakes, ie not in Lancaster. He was helpful enough to tell me which website it was, and a swift email later the advert was removed. Another man rang this week claiming to have seen a different set of rates for me, but couldn't tell me where so not very useful. I do occasionally run a quick google of my phone number which can reveal 'unknown-to-me' adverts. The directory listing me as Lancaster had applied their own 070 number to direct to my phone, they'll have been creaming off the excess phone charges so doubly cheeky. I will only ever have a genuine, normal rate mobile phone number.

Regards Vivastreet I battled with them for years, they can't get the basics right, including a reliable location - they are still using a database from the 1970s before the county lines were redrawn. For years they said they'd be updating it, on top of their other foibles I finally gave up and will not give them any more chances.

I think if you are not in a large city some sites are just hopeless at getting your location right and pick somewhere vaguely near it. There are a few London based sites who because my borough is way out have registered me as in other random places so get called by nice polite sounding potential clients who half way through the conversation realise I am 15 miles away from them or they were expecting me to be in central London, not an hour away!

Vaguely? My postcode puts me one hour away.

When I was in a largeish county town they only had the small, very local villages listed............ok only a few miles out, but clients are often wary of small villages, or think you are being misleading.

Current option is to list somewhere quite socially sensitive 15-20 minutes away, or be plonked one hour away. Given their other rules, and fees, combined with the high number of low quality enquiries, and their mobile site putting a 'text me' button at the top of the profile above the details (I do not take new enquiries by text) which is unremoveable. I'm just not going to pay to have my nails pulled out!

Ive had several bookings via a contact magazine that lifted my info and used it. They just have my name and phone number though so not many details and I think a picture. Im not complaining about the several hours of work Ive received from them tbh. Someone did once put a fake advert on vivastreet or something for me to try to mess me up as a bait and switch but luckily someone told me when they phoned me and I got it sorted out. That website now requires email validation before they put an ad on and it was by an particularly pathetic individual, not the site itself

Like you Chloe I've had some very good contact magazine clients.

Backpage listed me with some incorrect details a few weeks ago. I told them a long time ago why I do not want to advertise with them. When I was alerted to the ad, I was quite shocked. There was enough to link it to me, but the info was totally misleading.
