In today's shock news, sex workers make great friends and neighbours

It's in The Times, too.

A study has found that people living in the heart of a seaside resort’s red-light district feel safe and secure.

Dr Emily Cooper, from the University of Central Lancashire, interviewed residents, sex workers, police and council workers in Blackpool over 18 months and said that the findings “smashed” her preconceptions.

Residents said the 24-hour opening of brothels made them feel safe and that they viewed the sex workers as friends and neighbours who “put the bins out like everybody else”. One resident said living in the red light district was “better than daytime television”.

Dr Cooper said: “It’s important to recognise that, for some people, living or working in close proximity to sex work produces feelings of unease. However, my research found that, generally, the massage parlours had much more complex roles for some of the local people.

“They evoke feelings of safety and security, they are distractions from the mundane hours of work, they contribute economically via the use of taxi services and other amenities for clients and sex workers, and finally, a role that is never reported, the sex workers are also neighbours and friends.”

Going off on a tangent but had an escort living very close by and I can say that she was definitely one of the better neighbours I've had...

Seeing as I often tend to be at home during the day, I'm the one that buzzes in the postie, the leaflet-dropping guys, Yodel deliveries (ugh!), council workers.... you name it.  I've even called out the SSPCA when I see an animal in distress out my window.  I mean, c'mon....  how could you not want me living in your stair?!  ;)  :)
