The new Fiver....

Looks ok in the press but got my first one yesterday and it looked like it was made by some school project, the picture of the queen and Winston are fine but the other graphics make the note look out of shape, I thought that it had been cropped wrong.

Winston was a good choice.

A True symbol of British-ness.

I really like the see through bit! And that when I accidently put it through the washing machine it was absolutely fine! :)

I still say "oh a new one" every time I'm handed one. Can't help it.  They are funny little things aren't they. Saw a picture of one that had apparently gone through a tumble dryer and shrink to a tiny shrivelled hard little fiver the size of a key fob. I guess that at least if you had a fire you could just take a bucket of the shrivelled little plastic fiver lumps  into the bank and ask them to replace them please lol

When I got my first ones out of a machine when they first appeared, a woman was walking behind me. I turned and said have you seen these and she said with no enthusiasm 'Oh I've had them for years - I'm Australian. They scrunch up nastily in your pocket'.

I wonder if more people will find the ones with the serial number starting AK 47?  Going apparently for 50000 pounds on ebay.

They stick to one another too. Vending machines don't like them. The plastic tenner is supposed to be out next year!

The old paper fiver stops being legal tender tomorrow night so if you've got any get them spent.

Best to get rid of them but since shops could still pay them in to a bank account with other cash why would they worry.  It's a bit like Scottish bank notes, most shops accept them in England although legally they don't have to.

cant help but have got addicted to saving all new fivers - havent spent at least one since they came out - all neatly put away - soon will have nearly £700 saved in fivers only  I guess I shall really tweak my hourly rates to reflect my addiction e.g. 155 and 205

That is a really odd thing to do - not only odd but weird, psychologically troubling and really rather worrying. Have you thought of seeing someone about it?

I know I save all the new pound coins I get but that is quite a different matter, obviously.

It would be a step backwards for you with me. I'd pay in tens and twenties and expect change.  :)

 most guys probably would - I just would need to carry a bagful of £1 and £2 coins as nobody is getting my fivers
