The media is to blame.

The view of the paid sex scene is thoroughly distorted by its cliched representation by the media.

In drama programmes and indeed in most documentaries ALL prostitutes are crack whores who work the streets or are trafficked, underaged, etc.

The Vice, Band of Gold, etc, etc. all totally stereotypical.

I don't think I've EVER seen a realistic portrayal of a level headed prostitute who is in the business of her own free will.

Journalists, TV directors and producers and the bloody politicians need to get out more.

Unwilling prostitutes are probably less than 10%.

Yes, they need to be protected and helped, but the vast majority are in it of their own free will. Most transactions are between consenting adults and legislation is not going to stop it. :o

Secret Diary of a Call Girl seemed pretty accurate.

But I agree with the rest, the heads of TV dont want the government busy bodies getting in a flap that they are endorsing prostitution......

I never saw the other programs, but that The Street? on a few months ago (with Anna Friel) seemed similar. According to that, all parlours are all painted red inside with beads over the doors, the madam is a 20st 50 year old woman calling everyone "me darlin!", and all the punters are either 70 year old men or overweight skinheads.

NIK why don't you get STORM to make a documentary about your adventures. I would be more than happy to play the part of the red hot filly from Bury that you pleasured with your company;)

Im sure once the public get a glimpse through the eyes of a whore connoisseur and butchers at me (I would be looking for a PPV contract and website listed in credits with my banner) Prostitution would be seen as it truly is :o

There are so many of us surely we can do something about it. Publish a magazine or newspaper, campaign for bordellos, something

Spot on - the vast majority of WGs are in prostitution because of the money. If you offered them the alternative of stacking shelves at £100/hour I doubt many would give up. OK - on come the feminists claiming that I would not know if a girl hated the job if she was good at it, but in many years of punting I have never detected unhappiness in any WG - witness their happy smiles as I hand over the money and the invitations to come back next week.

write to mps, complain to papers,tv when a negative portrayal of prostitution is mentioned, join facebook groups that are pro-sex,confront & debate those on facebook anti-prostitution groups

just a few things that can be done but we all need to get involved for the sake of health & safety of sex workers

Disagree: the (printed + internet) media have, despite all the anti-propaganda, managed to paint a relatively correct picture of Escorting, Indies and Agencies.

Internet, specifically, helped me make the decision to try this on.

And several Ladies I've met have been lured into this business thanks to newspaper-articles and internet-research they could do.

The nice thing of the new media landscape is that sometimes information gets out despite propaganda-machines and media-monopolies.

There was a sitcom on Channel 5 about 3 years ago called Respectable based in a suburban brothel. It had a slightly rose tinted perspective but the writer had clearly done his homework quite thoroughly. Unfortunately, though, it was deemed either unsuitable for the general public or was not sufficiently funny enough, so was shown very late at night.

Then there is no cause for alarm.

Ah yes I remember that and I agree that was quite informed and also funny.

The madam was funny wasn't she?

The media make people beleive all working girls are crack heads and trafficked in by people smugglers. This of course is a sad fact, and should be reported and the girl helped. Another thing, they don't report on level headed escorts and establishments, they don't sell newspapers.

Not seen this, but it is on sale from a well known internet site beginning with A (other retailers are available) for the disgustingly high price of £2.98. It has some good reviews there as well, so I've just ordered a copy. I'll bill the two of you if it's rubbish :o.

P.S. Sorry NIK for perpetuating the thread hijack

My favourite was Bob(?) the builder. He was so ..... normal, except that he had no sexual hang ups at all. A positive role model! If only everybody were like that.

Although not hilarious, at least equal to many current comedies. Underrated. The series ought to be repeated on something like Dave. It could well become a cult classic for a non mainstream audience.

But having also watched documentaries with a certain idiot in.... :)

some of those girls he spoke to weren't for real and I do remember laughing watching it!

I think it was on Sky 1 must be at least 5 or 6 years ago now and what was it called McCoys Massage parlour guide or something?
