Favourite escort book

Now with Belle finally being uncovered, sorry Brooke, but I never believed you were real!!! And all the other escort books out there I was wondering what have been your favourite books on this topic and why?

Belle will always be a book that sticks in ones mind as it was the first of its kind and the most famous, but hidden in the back of my cupboards I know I have a good few others, somehow I have not bought any of them for a couple of years so if anyone has some spares laying around I will be on surgical leave for some time if you wanna post them. Have not read the Miss X ones.

Am going through a self exploritory phase at the moment and examining myself in depth. The complex creature that I am :D

But boobies and smiles are not helping me understand our world a little more.

At the moment I want to explore more into escorting, and understand others motives etc. stupid really since I have been around for seven years.

Not sure if the library will stock some of the books I may want to read. A quick search on Amazon and I found over 1,000 books of this type. Hmmm.

Working: My Life as a Prostitute by Dolores French

This was a good read. Quite thick too. American lady, but she also spent a brief time in The Dam. It's on Amazon second hand.

I am not a fan of the modern prose by hookers. Yes, I've read "Secret diary of working girl", but not other subsequent books from Brooke.

Recently on the market I bought "Diary of Jetsetting call girl" by Tracy Quan. What with all this "diary of call girls" suddenly start to flow, after Belle de-Jour? I have not started to read it yet, and probably would not buy it from the shop or online, but it was only 50 pence and was staring me in the face, lol (publishers price £7).

The book I would recommend, which I read about 3 times but in Russian, is

Yama, the Pit. I've read it in English too and was impressed with translation.

Kristy: I hope Dolymop will see this thread, as she is a right book worm, especially on the subject of prostitution. I am sure she will give you the long list of suggestions. :D

Hi Kirsty

Call Me Elizabeth by Dawn Annandale is a good one i thought.

Of recent books the one I'd re-read is Charlie Daniels' Priceless (Hodder 2006)---- first because she has a genuinely interesting story to tell-- street girl to massage parlour to prison to big-scale madame and, second, because she writes well.

And -though it's out of print and has to be got second hand-- Marthe Lemetre's Madame Sphinx (Trans. Strom) Ballantine, New York 1975--- telling of her experience running the legendary Sphinx brothel in Paris before WW2---- and with al Capone in 20s Chicago.

And the recent book that gave a dry laugh is Dawn Annandale's Call Me Elizabeth.... Laugh because of her sense of grievance that she only because WG because her 'useless' husband couldn't make enough to keep her six (yes, six) children at private school and pay mortgage, living costs on top!

Some years ago an escort pointed me at 'A Piece of Time' by Cupcake Brown. She told me it would be a harrowing read, and some parts quite closely reflected some of her journey.

The ISBN in 0-553-81817-1

This was actually the book that convinced me I could do this job - even though the 'heroine' got right on my tits with her 'excuses' for whoring. Dammit - never make excuses!

I have Priceless and Piece of Cake and quite a few of the others not got round to reading them. Picked up Nasty Girl yesterday by Ma Ling Lee or whatever she was called. Trying to get my hands on Catherine Millet.

It would just be good to read something well balanced for once.

Although I have read a lot of the historic books about floozies as part of my City & Guild qualifications in Harloting including a number of European ones not on the 'official' list, I really did not rate the great majority of contemporary books. Sorry Brooke but I found the Belle de Jour books dire and the one published last summer by another PN contributor was the worst of them all. I really do want to like them out of some kind of sense of camaraderie but most are a bit merde...

Slightly off topic though in some way related as they are about sexual adventures- the woman who wrote 'the Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick maker' is real, and Abby Lee is too (both use a pen name).

'A Piece Of Cake' Is probably one of the most harrowing, yet inspiring books I've yet to read in it's genre... But I do like two of the acroymns that were used

FEAR:

'Fuck Everything And Run' Or 'Face Everything And Recover'

Don't forget "The Profession of Pleasure" by Cheryl Summerton

Long-time PN users will remember the author (albeit under her working name, which I am not sure I should disclose) who was a board regular and appeared at numerous social gatherings.

She was always pretty open about the fact she was writing it and at the time of publishing there were quite a few posts on here about it and the fact of who it was who'd written it. Personally I thought the ghost writer did a pretty poor job, I'm sure the lady herself, (who was very witty and intelligent) could have actually done a better job without the ghost writer.

I googled it and got several hits including this one, http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R1HCZ2FXAFPBKV

I did an amazon search the other day of books on escorts. It may have been on one of the other pages, I scrolled for a few and then gave up and thought why not ask the professionals! lol
